HOME: Jungles and forests of Asia
LIFE SPAN: 15 years in the wild and 20 years in the zoo.
LOOKS: A full-grown male Bengal tiger's body can grow to 9 feet long
and have a 3 foot long tail (this is as long as a car!) Their weight can
be 500 pounds or more. The females are smaller. Tigers are the largest
of the cat family. The fur is short and dense. No two tigers have the same
pattern of stripes, just as people have different fingerprints. Large eyes
and good hearing help them hunt for food. Their jaws are powerful, with
large canine teeth for tearing meat. You can click on the tigers to hear
them!
FOOD: Deer, wild pigs, young buffalo, young elephants, birds, fish,
small mammals and dead animals. In a single year it can kill as many as
50 deer.
