In the late 1870's she was in service in Surrey, where she met her husband - William Messam from Benefield, Northants. They were married 23 Oct 1880 at Carlshalton and lived in "Cromer Cottage" Gravel Hill, Leatherhead, Surrey. They had 13 children, of which 11 survived childhood.
