Rooke, Gilbert "Gilly" Rook, Fisherman living with the Jacob family in Jetty St in 1851. Then lived in Swan's Yard which lay south off Church St. He was mentioned by Savin as a fine fisherman. He remembered him at the wreck of the "Fernebo" in 1917 carrying up large loads as they came ashore and owing to the severe frost, his clothes were covered with ice. This went on for some days. He died in 1917 Savin says he was 94 but ages were always rather dubious in census records. 1831 Cromer, Norfolk

Family of Benjamin Rust (1)
Rust, Benjamin Son of a Yeoman farmer, he was apprenticed in 1771 to William Daniels, a grocer and tallow chandler of Yarmouth. He moved to Cromer in 1793 and rented premises of William Kirby, a Tobacconist of St Paul's Churchyard, London. On July 5th 1798 he bought five cottages, a malthouse and gardens in High St Cromer for £550. His Grocery shop sold "Bombazine" which was made by the Dutch based in Norwich and expoted to Russia in large quantities, Whale oil, gun flints, nails and tinware. He also kept horses and was a housing agent for Samuel Hoare. Benjamin was made a freeman of Yarmouth in 1783 and later that year married Hannah Nurse of Trimingham. In 1805 he rebuilt the front of his shop, which remained the same until 1892 when it was damaged by a run away horse. 1758 - 1824 Palling

He was originally married to Mary Ransom and had two children Benjamin and Hannah. After her death he married Georgiana Sandford. He died in 1864, leaving the business to Benjamin (3) Hannah and Henry.

Rust, Henry Son of Benjamin and Georgiana Rust. He took over the running of the entire department store after brother Benjamin (3) and sister hannah retired. He also opened a branch in Sheringham in 1898. The shop lastest up until the early 1970's when they were bought out. Today it has been redeveloped as a Budgens supermarket.
