"The saddest thing is if at the end of your life you say 'I wish I did' or 'Why didn't I?'. You have to go after it with full gusto in life, whatever it is, go after the stupidest whim, because you pass by once." - Gene Simmons

CD REVIEWS:

Bent Out Of Shape: "This album contains two great songs: Can`t let you go and Snowman. All other sucks." - Review by Valick from ???

Catch The Rainbow - A Tribute To Rainbow: "5/5 (rating) There has been a plague of tribute records flooding the marketplace over the last few years and very few of them have been approached from this particular direction or with such stunning results. First off, this is less a collection of groups or single musicians tributizing the songs of Ritchie Blackmore as it is a single band interpreting eleven pieces of rock and roll brilliance.
The first thing that is really clear here is that CATCH THE RAINBOW, (comprised of current and former members of HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY, GRAVE DIGGER, KINGDOM COME, PUNCH TV and METALIUM and a host of "special guests") are huge RAINBOW fans. The "RAINBOW: LIVE ON STAGE" record is obviously firmly implanted in this group's collective memory and it must have been a chore not to repeat every nuance of that record note for note for this recording. Still, there are shades of that landmark recording, the keyboard passages on "Still I'm Sad" for instance, but we weren't looking for a complete re-write anyway, were we? Of course not.
As you would be justified in expecting, much of this record highlights the "Dio era RAINBOW" but what you might not expect is a full seven minutes of disc space dedicated to "Rainbow Eyes" which remains as beautiful a composition as any in rock music history. Equally as unexpected are the selections that cover the Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynne Turner periods. CTR did the adventurous thing and dug deeper than "Stone Cold" and "Since You've Been Gone" to give us stunning renditions of "Lost in Hollywood," "I Surrender," "Spotlight Kid" and "Eyes of the World." I think that the world will find forgiveness for the band having bypassed the Doogie White era this time out although I did catch the six or seven note bass run on "Still I'm Sad" that approximated a guitar lead from "STRANGER IN US ALL." Not only is CTR a recording unit but they have also taken the act out live which is doubly great to hear as these are songs that are rarely if ever played live. Other than DIO and Blackmore's Night begrudgingly pulling out a number here and there this will likely be the only place to see RAINBOW material performed live, period. My wish is that this thing sells a million copies so that they take the roadshow world wide but there isn't much chance of that, buy a copy and prove me wrong, PLEASE!" - Review by David Lee Wilson of Ian Scott Entertainment

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow: "...It's an interesting enigma about DP that has been driving me nuts for 20 years now! I have been a fan of Deep Purple (and most of its offshoots) since "Machine head" was released, and I have almost all of their albums (still missing one from the Rod Evans/Nick Simper days). I was one of the first to grab Ritchie Blackmore's "Rainbow" album when it was released. Immediately, I noticed that someone had inscribed the words "THE WASP" on the centre of the record next to the label sticker, where the serial number is usually etched. It was done in capital letters with an artful little flourish on each end; definitely done by hand, and much more time consuming than the usual factory stamp or etching. The nickname of Martin Birch, Deep Purple's producer in the good old days, was "The Wasp". In fact, it credited "The WASP" right in the "Rainbow" album credits. I surmise that this means one of two things: (1) Martin Birch happened to be in the production plant, by coincidence or by design, when the "Rainbow" album was coming off the press and saw the fellow etching in the serial number. He said, "Here, let me try that" and actually etched his nickname on 20 or 30 records, creating instant collectors' items. The only complication is, the album sticker says "Made in Canada". Was Martin Birch in Canada during 1975? (2) A mischievous production plant worker, knowing the confusion he could create, did the etching, and people like me have been pondering the significance of this ever since. As an aside, 10 years after the "Rainbow" album was released, I visited a local FM station here in Newfoundland (I worked as a journalist/music writer), and noticed that they were dumping thousands of LPs. I thumbed through them and took several hundred home, including another copy of the "Rainbow" album. You guessed it: that album also had THE WASP etched into the centre ring. It was not as intricately decorated as my first copy (which I had bought in Toronto) but was hand-etched nonetheless and by the same person. I've been looking for the answer to this little riddle for more than 20 years now. Would anyone be able to shed some light on it?" - Review by Geoff Meeker from Newfoundland, Canada
Stranger In Us All: "This album is the best Rainbow album ever. Greatest song: Still I`m Sad. I can`t say, which song is a worst. All songs are great. Album is something new. Ritchie Blackmore`s Rainbow is not Rainbow `76-`83. Other great songs: Ariel, Hunting Humans, Silence, Wolf Of The Moon." - Review by Valick from ???
