horse dreamer's blues This was an instant favorite of mine after listening to RTS for the very first time. Simply because it was different. It was a departure from the sound defined in August and simply shows how great this band is, musically. I don’t know, its just got a great feel to it. Starting with Adam’s "chanting" throughout the song, it simply swings. The band shows what a rigorous year or two of touring can do, unite a band even tighter and enable to produce musical masterpieces like this. The title is pretty curious…I don’t really know much about Adams seeming affixation with horses or what not, and I really don’t know much about Margery, the central character, who also has another song named after her (not included in either album), but all I’m concerned with is just how great this song sounds. I know I’m getting quite repetitive with this but I really can’t seem to stress it enough. Plus, the string section adds a real slick touch and adds to the dreamy like atmosphere. The Crows paint another intricate picture with this song, although it is very "slick", there’s an underlying theme or feeling of uneasiness and frustration as Adam narrates the dire straits being experienced by the central character. The song moves on at a restless but often restrained pace until it reaches the end, where Adam vocally "breaks out"(well, not really) as his soft chant gets louder and louder. All in all, what else can I say? It’s a cool song, something different for a change, and just equally entertaining.
