have you seen me lately? ----------------

have
you seen me lately? When I heard the intro to this song I was distraught, it was just so ugly. Luckily the song is a lot better and one of the easier ones to like form RTS. But with all the great sound and general good flavor of the music, it’s easy to overlook the true meaning of the song which are in the words themselves. Which is why when I heard the "acoustic" stripped down version of this song, I was just blown away. Like I mentioned I think in my "Mr. Jones" notes, people envy rock stars and hate even more those who complain about their popularity, but in all of this, we tend to forge the fact that these guys are human too, with the same feelings as we do. Adam confessed that he hesitated adding this to the RTS record because of the possible "backlash" who could get from jealous people labeling him as just some spoiled person. Well, it would actually come out that way if Adam bitched about it, but he didn’t. The true beauty of this song is that is a pure and honest confession, you really tend to feel sorry for the guy when he asks "have you seen me lately?" When he talks about how his life just seemed to flash before his eyes that little things that we take for granted in life are just forgotten and missed. It’s come to a point wherein the guy is almost cynical asking us to "color him in", he’s just lost himself in all the mess and is asking for our help to at least understand him and his plight. Adam sings this song with so much emotion (like he does with everything) it sounds almost apologetic(although it doesn’t have to be), pleading, and innocent. "Have you seen me lately?" it’s an honest to goodness question, something we should ask ourselves every now and then to keep both our feet on the ground.
