error is Ellen's age, being 29 in 1900 and 46 in 1910. One can
only assume that shy is possibly the 1900 sibling Ellen. Other
observed differences: Sam's mother being stated as English in

[114]
Ellen "Starilack" is what is recorded as her maiden name in her
marriage record with Samuel Brown in 1884. Huron County
Historian, Dan Burton, and myself have come to the belief that
this spelling was simply made in error.
[116]
Discrepencies between 1900 & 1910 census: The community around
Sherman Township in Huron County is much too small to have
another Sam T Brown of the correct age with a wife named Ellen
and child named Mary. However, the differences between these
two census readings need to be pointed out.
The first error is Ellen's age, being 29 in 1900 and 46 in
1910, a 7 year error. One can only assume that she was 36 in
1900 but told everyone 29 ..... including the census taker!
The second error is Mary's age, being 15 in 1900 and 17 in
1910. The 1910 Mary is possibly the 1900 sibling Ellen.
Other observed differences: Sam's mother being stated as
English in 1900 and
Irish in 1910 (minor), Ellen's not being able to read and write
in 1900 but
able to in 1910 (learned?).
[118]
Age given in 1900 census of "29" should be 36, based on 1910
census and death record.

Marriage record number 1783, dated 26 Aug 1884, recorded 29 Aug
1884
between Samuel Brown, White Rock, farmer, age 35 and Ellen
Starilack,
also of White Rock, age 18. Both being born in Canada, neither
set
of parents names were recorded. Date of marriage same as
license, neither
being previously married. Justice of the Peace was Alexanda
Lindsay.
Place of marriage was White Rock, witnesses were John and
Rebecca Brown.
In 1882, Sam moved to a farm near White Rock where he remained
46 years.
After his death, his wife went to live with her daughter,
Nellie, at
Deckerville, Michigan.
[1377]
In 1910, census lists Samuel as age 63. In 1920, Samuel is
listed aged 70, wife 54, son (Alfred) 15. The 1910 census also
states Samuel's mother was born in Ireland, but the 1870 record
states Spain. We either have a pair of Samuel T Brown's
crossed here, or it was not considered proper to have Spanish
relatives.
