Breeding Angels

A pair of Angels will clean an area for their eggs, eg on a slate, leaf, rock, filter stem etc. I always put a slate leaning against the wall of the aquarium and hope that they will lay there. At 27.5 degrees Celcius, the eggs will hatch in 2.5 days, so I remove the eggs before this time and put them into a hatching tank with the same water. A gently bubbling airstone is put close to the eggs. I also add a small amount of Multicure to prevent the spread of fungus from the infertile eggs.

After hatching, the babies drop to the floor of the tank for several days. After 5 days, they have consumed their egg yolk, become free swimming, and are now ready to eat. I put paramecium into the tank 5 times per day for one week, then feed them newly hatched brine shrimpand microworms. A partial change of water is done each day for another 3 weeks. By this time they are eating dried foods.
At 4 weeks, the weak and deformed are culled, and all effort put into the rest. I raise about 500 young in each 300 litre tank.
Whiteworms or tubifex (black worms) fed occasionally will boost growth.
