Unknown Lombok Often described as what Bali was like twenty years ago. Yes and no. Yes it is less developed than Bali. No it has always been different to Bali. Most people arrive in Lombok by fast ferry or jet cat, online ticket reservation from Bali to Lombok island and are greeted by sites that are initially very Balinese. One step back from these tourist ports and you are in an island and culture dominated by Islam. The populated areas look and sound much more like Java. The rural areas are however much less populated than Java. As you drive through this small island you will see a large number of farms growing the produce you eat in your hotel back in Bali. The food in Lombok is fresh and abundant. The cooking is spicy. Many dishes include locally grown Kangkung (a green vegetable), which is renowned as the best in Indonesia. |
