HUMANS HAVE BASIC NEEDS AND POWERS

 

1. Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, noted child expert says one of the primary drives is the drive for AUTONOMY. The desire to be ones own boss, to being in charge of oneself. To  make my own decision as to what I think and what I do. In Sacramento recently, the U.S. is in serious trouble with their children.

 

2. From John Bradshaw: On The Family.

  

A. OUR BASIC NEEDS: Self Value, Security, Strokes, Stimulation, Structure, Self Actualization, Spiritualization.

     - BDL  ADD: NURTURING, VALIDATION, BELONGING; SENSE OF BEING SIGNIFICANT.

 

B. BASIC POWERS: TO-Perceive, Interpret, Feel, Want, Imagine, Express, Intuit & Create

 - BDL ADDS: POWER TO CHOOSE

 a. If any of these are not met or thwarted, will have to deal with as adults. 

            i.e... Needs met or Powers expressed  

 

It is very important to know where we are coming from. By that I mean some people come from off the wall. Some from very harsh environments. Some few of us from very loving situations that has allowed the person to grow and develop naturally and fully, that builds self esteem...

 

ATTITUDE, POSITION, EVERYONE HAS ONE.

 

Here is a little test to let you have some idea where you are coming from. One can't move to a new self image if we don't know our present one. When going from SACTRAMENTO to CHICAGO you go essentially straight EAST.  But if you are in LOS ANGELES and go straight EAST  YOU END UP IN NASHVILLE, TN.

What if I told you that the Universe is perfect ?

Examples:

Water expands @ 4oC so that ice floats; O3 vs. O2 but O3 floats at higher elevation to screen;

Carbon atom -, =, benzene ring, Bucky sphere, etc. HOW “C” ATOM BEHAVES IS VITAL TO LIVING THINGS.  Why called "Organic Chemistry".

 

O2  level not always ~20%, was much lower & CO2 higher when plants plentiful.

 

Sac Bee 4/22/99: Per research of Stephen Scheckler, professor of biology and geological sciences at Virginia Tech. 360 Million years ago: Earth’s atmosphere changed from 10% to 1% carbon dioxide and from 5% to 20% oxygen in just 50MM years, a pace that seems to have accelerated during the 15 MM years in which a new type of tree reigned supreme.  It also put more nutrients in streams to foster the evolution of freshwater fish and was the first plant to produce a wide spread root system, affecting soil chemistry. ..... It was the first long-lived       perennial with a life span of 20 to 50 or even 100 years, giving it a tremendous competitive advantage over other plants. It reproduced by releasing spores, an evolutionary dead end, more an ancient aunt than a direct ancestor of present day trees.

 

       This change was needed for when large animals appeared and needed the higher O2. Now O2 is 20.9%, N2 - 78% Argon 0.93% OTHER 0.07%  including CO2 @0.035%. NOTE: IF HIGH O2 MUCH FIRE & BURNING  (RAPID OXIDATION).

 

VITAL TO MAKING LIFE POSSIBLE FOR US: THE EARTH'S   SPIN,   TILT   DIST. FROM SUN,   ROTATION ABOUT,   ETC. ETC, ETC. PLUTO WAS THERE BEFORE IT WAS SEEN BECAUSE OF AFFECT ON OTHER  PLANETS.  EACH IMPACTS THE POSITION OF THE EARTH.

 

Without the moon, the earth would be unstable in its spin, it would recess so the poles face the sun and back and no life would be possible on the planet.

 

Solar system in a place in the galaxy where there's less radiation !

 

If any of the three major forces in the Universe changed just a small amount the Universe could not exist & there would be no planet earth for life to live on.

      

 Everything is set up for there to be life on this planet and life is found every where. In hot sulfur fumes to three miles deep in granite and iron ore.

 

THE UNIVERSE IS VERY INTRICATE AND INTERCONNECTED. BY YOUR EXISTENCE YOU HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE UNIVERSE.

IF ANYTHING IS CHANGED IN THE UNIVERSE EVEN BY A SMILL AMOUNT = NO LIFE ON THE PLANET!  

 

EVERYTHING HAS A ROLE AND A PURPOSE AND SO DO YOU.                      

 

 WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE A PERFECT ORGANISM ? For that to be true we would have to redefine perfect ! "Perfect" usually means never making a mistake. But there is something that's better than not making a mistake.

 

 (Cockroach = perfect ? Not changed in millions of years but surviving !)

 

 A really better organism is one that is not limited, flexible, dynamic and ever growing. One that learns from ones mistakes.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

 

DESIGN FOR A PERFECT ORGANISM UPDATED 9/10/90

 

1. Have longevity - i.e. stick around for a while; not easily become dysfunctional or die.

     -survival instinct

     -able to sense danger

2. Able to repair itself - heal

     -detect when hurt - pain = give attention to repairs

 

3. Mobile - able to move around therefore not a plant.

 

4. Aware of its surroundings, especially at a distance

     -Sight, hear, smell,(touch, taste)

 

5. Is aware of itself. Self conscious. Can reflect upon its own feelings and inner thoughts.

 

6. Have CURIOSITY, WONDERMENT, AWE. Really interested on what is going on around; and inside.

 

7. Energy efficient - little intake goes a long ways

 

8. Can store energy for some period of time and not spoil - fat

 

9. Have ingenuity - can think, plan, organize, act

 

10. Can create - i.e. have imagination, perceive what not yet is, then bring it into being.

       Look around. What do you see that wasn't here before we humans arrived on the planet.

11. Can cooperate with others to extend abilities. Yet can go it alone if necessary.

 

12. Can remember and learn from past experience. Can make trials, tests to increase the understanding.

 

13. A  dynamic organism, not static, capable of adjusting to complicated situations as new information is received. An open ended organism always capable of growing, learning changing. Can choose to be open to new ideas, thoughts, things.

14. Have a memory bank that can operate automatically when needed, sub-conscious.

 

15. Can replace itself when worn out. A metabolism where every cell is replaced over a period of time (5 years ?) Also can reproduce itself in kind to continue its heritage.

 

WHAT DO YOU THINK ? DOESN'T THIS DESCRIBE WHAT WE CALL A HUMAN BEING. AND THIS IS WHAT WE PUT DOWN. THIS IS WHAT WE FEEL IS OF LITTLE VALUE.

 

SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING YOU HAVE INTRINSIC VALUE, THE TOP OF THE KNOWN ANIMAL CHAIN. THE KNOWN BEST ON THE PLANET.

#1 GOAL is to be Open Ended  - TO REALIZE I HAVE NO LIMIT TO MY DEVELOPMENT.  TO BE MY AUTHENTIC SELF, BEING ME, WHO I WAS MEANT TO BE!

Asymtote: a curved line that approaches a horizontal line (goal), always getting closer but never quite getting there.

 

VS       Only do & think what others say is OK!  Or feel GUILT and unworthy, I’m a mistake if not do the SHOULDS! We can live the same year again over and over again 50 – 80 times. HOW WE LIVE IS OUR CHOICE!

YOU ARE REALLY VERY REMARKABLE BY ANY MEASUREMENT.

 

THE UNIVERSE IS A MAGNIFICENT ADVENTURE AND YOU &  I HAVE A STANDING INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE.  That’s why you and I are here !To participate in the adventure.

FIRST TOOL: The first tool we will discuss on changing your self image is:

 

HOW DOES THIS CHANGING THE SELF IMAGE WORK? Same way got present one !  Imprint the sub-conscious.

 

INTRODUCE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS Lou Tice seminar, fall of ‘83, How to change the S-I.

 

DEFINED: A positive affirmation is a statement made to imprint the sub conscious in a positive manner to bring about a change in ones Self-Image or to reinforce a particular image.

 

We use affirmations all the time. Some are positive but many are negative.

 

Examples:

           “Boy Scout Oath”

          "I can't spell"

           The pledge of allegiance

          "I can't do math."

          "I can't remember names."

          "I can't talk before a group."

          "Boy, am I stupid."

          "I never do anything right."

          "I remember faces." (A Natural asset we are born with. But can't remember names, that’s not natural)

 

     Affirmations work because of how the subconscious works which I will cover later.

 

(Do you realize that character is not an inheritance but each person must develop character  for his/her self after being born.)

 

MY AFFIRMATIONS WORK ONLY FOR ME. I CANNOT DO AN AFFIRMATION FOR ANOTHER PERSON. BUT...........MY ACTIONS AND WHERE I COME FROM DOES AFFECT OTHERS.

 

FOR PROPER AFFIRMATIONS

 

A. Need to Think Positive. Think positive get positive result. Think negative get negative results.

 

YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON. WHAT'S CONSTANTLY IN AND ON YOUR MIND! Thoughts in mind develop in kind !

 a. Can find something positive, SOMETHING TO LEARN,  from every situation - make a concerted effort to look for the positive that will bring a sense of well being.

 

B. Habits perpetuate Low Self - Esteem !  Practice makes permanent not perfect !

a. Important to reprogram to the positive. Think of happy past experience, write it down on a card, refer to it frequently.

 

IF HAVE HAD AN EARLY CHILDHOOD TRAUMA - Must recondition brain cell path: DEVELOP NEW AND ALTERNATIVE PATHS. Old response no longer valid.  I.E. new path preferred !!

C. Habits will also perpetuates HIGH SELF - ESTEEM ! COVER: BRAIN CELL TRACK, PATH)

 a. Positive affirmations (see sheet) will reprogram you to have self esteem. Will have the same result as actual experiences. BASKETBALL PLAYERS' EXAMPLE: Those who visualized the practice of Free Throws improved almost as much as those who actually practiced Free Throws.

 

SELF-ESTEEM AFFIRMATION, write this down: "I AM SOMEONE OF VALUE AND I APPRECIATE MYSELF. I AM A WORTHY, CAPABLE AND VALUABLE PERSON.

 

I CAN REPROGRAM MY SUB-CONSCIOUS AND CHANGE MY SELF IMAGE. I CAN RECOGNIZE MY INTRINSIC VALUE. I can consciously accelerate and direct  the reprogramming.

Our CONSCIOUS M IND we are all aware of .

Our SUB CONSCIOUS MIND, the largest part, we seldom are aware of but impacts all the time.

Our, what we call, THE OLD MIND that takes care of all our bodily functions.

Our SUPRA CONSCIOUS or what Karl Jung calls the COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUS MIND.

The brain is separated into a LEFT and RIGHT SIDES. With different functions. The talk between the Left and Right sides is important.

Talk between Left and Right is important, i.e.  using (the Bridge) the whole brain.

     

Men and women use both sides of the brain. But men generally operate more from the Left rain which is more the logical, analogical, time bound, deals with things , Women operate more from the Right side which is more intuitive, into relationships,  see things whole, synthesizes the parts into a unified whole.

1. GREAT STORE HOUSE OF INFORMATION AND EXPERIENCE. Our entire life, every thing we have ever heard, saw, felt is recorded there. Some say even the number of broken white lines we've seen on the highway.   “Crebsmake connections for lasting impression & memories !

DENNIS WAITLEY EXAMPLE OF THE BIRTHDAY PARTY.  The actual party is experience not just recalled. The candle smoke is smelled, the rattle of gift paper heard, etc.

 

2. IT'S A SERVO UNIT! - a mechanism that coordinates your life to exactly fit your self image.

Define a servo unit: LIKE THE AUTOMATIC PILOT on an aircraft.

ITS LIKE THE CREW IN THE LOWER DECKS OF A SHIP CARRYING OUT THE ORDERS OF YOU THE CAPTAIN ON THE BRIDGE talking through a tube.

   

3. ITS THE GREAT PROBLEM SOLVER. While our conscious mind evaluates, dissects, analyzes and focuses, the subconscious integrates, brings all the information you have given it and puts it together, some times in unique and different ways, to provide answers. Its teleological. Give it a goal and it will strive to attain it. GREAT GOAL SEEKER.  JUST GIVE IT A GOAL - BINGO !  (RV example: Rear running lights.)

 

 4. Your subconscious exists to serve you not you it. You are the Master, it is the Jeanie/Genie. Though it is very powerful, you merely need to give it the proper instructions and it will do your bidding. That's why I call it my Genie, its this powerful tool that's at my beckon call. It is my ally !!

 

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS ARE THE NEW INSTRUCTIONS THAT THE SUB-CONSCIOUS IS TO FOLLOW. CHANGE YOUR SELF-IMAGE AND YOUR SUB-CONSCIOUS WILL SEE TO IT THAT YOUR LIFE FITS IT EXACTLY!!  ACCESS TO RIGHT BRAIN - CREATIVE, SYNTHESIS.

 

The Self-Image (S-I) incorporates the  BELIEFS ABOUT YOU THAT HAS BEEN INGRAINED INTO THE SUBCONSCIOUS UNTIL AUTOMATIC

      -FOR EXAMPLE YOUR ANXIETY SET POINT.

 

THE SUB-CONSCIOUS IS YOUR OWN PRIVATE "GENIE". YOU ONLY HAVE TO ASSIGN IT A WELL DEFINED TASK. IT HAS GREAT POWER TO CARRY OUT THE ASSIGNMENT.

 

NO NEED TO FRET AND WORRY, THE GENIE (SUB CONSCIOUS) IS PLEASED TO DO THIS FOR YOU, AND IT WILL BE WITH OUT EFFORT AFTER YOU HAVE DONE YOUR PART OF DEFINING EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. YOUR GENIE IS VERY POWERFUL !!! WILL WORK BETTER IF YOU WRITE IT DOWN !!

1. Need to do 5-20 time/day  & in a precise way I will cover in a moment1         

2. Goal is to be happy, peaceful, loving, free ourselves to be loving and accomplish whatever you wish. W/O FEAR = NO DEFENSES; NO ACT = JUST BEING ME = LOVING, A NICE PERSON

            3. Remember the goal is not to be selfish, a  narcissist. Goal, just to be me, be who I am !!

IT DOES HAVE TO BE REALISTIC. EXAMPLE: "I'M 6ft-3", handsome, marvelous muscular          physique, women can't keep their hands off me." Again: S-E is not pretending what I'm not. When I  come from my true center, being genuine, others like to be with me.

 

MEN: Give women what they really need and want & you can't keep them away!

 

TEST FOR SELFISHNESS: Do I want the same thing for you that I want for me ? (I do want for you what I want for me. ) 

 

I WANT THE ABSOLUTE BEST FOR ME.  I WANT THE ABSOLUTE BEST FOR YOU. (It’s OK for you to take charge of your life and be your own boss)

 

READ BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM AFFIRMATION. "I like myself. I know I am worthy, capable and valuable person."   (With low S-E I don’t see myself like that now. This is the new imprint.)

 

READ GOAL FROM SESSION #1 " I have decided I am someone of value and I appreciate myself. I treat myself and others with dignity and respect."  USE AS AN AFFIRMATION !!

 

 

HOW DO I USE THE AFFIRMATIONS ?  5 to 20 Times a Day. The more often the more effective.

1. I READ IT.

2. I PICTURE OR VISUALIZE IT VIVIDLY. I put myself in the picture. I see myself like that.

3. I FEEL IT - I FEEL THE EMOTIONS THAT ACCOMPANY THE PICTURE. Make it real !

1. Recognize what a marvelous and awesome organism you are. Read the handout “Perfect Organism” several times.

 

2. Structure time for yourself. Vital in changing your self-esteem. You have value and are worth it !!

 

3. Practice the three affirmations assigned as explained below. (^) every day and it will become a part of your self-image. Your subconscious will see to that just for the asking.  Watch for the changes in your feelings about yourself.

 

4. Read the Preview of Session III.  Practice writing an affirmation.

 

     1. Read them several times a day. Say 5-20 times.

     2. Visualize them vividly

     3. Get the feeling. Create the emotion that accompany the affirmation
