Ever since we were born, we have been told that our generation was supposed to be a plus for the country... youth... the children... the purest contribution for the future of our country... We didn't have so many benefits as other countries' children... but we sure were the pride of our people... At school we have been learning that in case of war coming up... children would have to be evacuated first... children wouldn't have to suffer as much as the grown-ups... the children would be safe... I don't believe in this anymore... I stopped believing in it long time ago... There are no rules in my country anymore... no rules... no right and wrong....only surviving... Nobody is saved... everybody suffers... and in this case....the children suffer the most... How do you explain war anyway... Is it just a method of expanding... is it a noun... is it just a fate... or a crazy man's idea... There is no explanation... there is no question either... simply because you have no time to wonder... you have to watch your back... I have no definition for the war going on in my, used to be so beautiful country Bosnia, but I do have a heart and I do have a memory... And I remember.. There was this child , living in my street... She was only 5... yet she seemed so older... She told me she was going to another country with her parents, to escape from the war... she told me she was going to swim there and eat lots of ice-cream... I looked at her and saw an innocent smile... Her eyes were shining and I saw a friend in a little creature such as herself... She said she was going to send a card to me... and to all of her friends... and one day she was going to come back... to ever so peaceful country... one day... little sugar... There was one thing she needed to do before taking plane to another country... she had to say good-bye to her granny.. And granny lived outside the city... Little girl tried to get there as soon as possible... so she used the shorter way... She never came back... one wrong step changed her destiny forever... One wrong step that her little foot made... one smile lost on a hard way... She never thought that under her feet were mines... never thought of getting killed... One wrong step... and I lost a little friend... One wrong step and pride of one family is gone... One wrong step and darkness is getting darker.. One wrong step... one mine... one life lost along the way... So say no more about the protection of the innocents... say no more about 'rules'... abut justice... there is no justice... it failed... Everybody suffers... and children are no exception...
