Under heaven nothing is softer and more yielding than
water. Yet for attacking the solid and the strong, nothing is
better; it has no equal. The weak can overcome the strong;
the supple can overcome the stiff.

Stop the Killing in East Timor

Right now the Government of Indonesia through its Military forces and the "civilian militias" it has armed and established is committing genocide against the people of East Timor. The East Timorese recently voted overwhelmingly in favour of independence from Indonesia in a UN sponsored referendum. The Indonesian Government had pledged to ensure stability and safety as well as making a commitment to respect the wishes of the East Timorese, instead they have orchestrated a campaign of violence and intimidation against unarmed civilians, many hundreds have been murdered already.

I wanted to provide some links to Indonesian Government sites however - and not surprisingly - they all seem to have gone off-line. Here are two sites that you can try - i suggest emailing them and attaching a suitably large "help file" or similar in order to slow everything down. The Indonesian embassy in Washington DC and the Indonesian consulate in Los Angeles.

For the latest news about East Timor Australia's ABC is probably the best source of up to the minute reporting - click the logo to be taken to their news site.

The following are links to a couple of East Timor support groups - I will endeavour to get some more links up as soon as possible.
Timor Net  The name says it all - great resources.
East Timorese Human Rights Centre Australian based Timorese Rights organisation.
Timor Fundraiser: Revelation Magazine Fund Raising site to aid Timorese refugees.

Hi and welcome to anarchy-westoz.

We are a small but enthusiastic group based in Perth, Western Australia, hoping to promote discussion of anarchism post-structuralism, queer theory and a whole host of other ideas, issues and practices.
On this page you will find links to essays by people associated with anarchy-westoz. Additionally we have tried to provide a good and growing set of links to connect you with cool sites, providing loads of relevant information and ideas.
For anarchists and other, 'intellectual' communities the web provides an ideal mechanism for overcoming the tyranny of distance and the isolation this can cause. Frequent and active discussion/exchange finds an ideal forum on the web and to this end we invite your participation. Feel free (rule No.1) to mail us with your comments (praise or bury us) and we will endeavour to respond. If you have no objections, responses will be added to the list of pages, here at anarchy-westoz.

Some links to get you connected...

ACTIVATE ILLEGALLY CENSORED  Go here for a brief statement on the possible links between anarchism and post-structuralism
Liberation struggles that you can and probably should get involved with (this section is under major construction so bear with me)  Holly's pages wherein you'll find stuff on queer theory, young peoples oppression and stacks of great links.
Anarchist resources on the net  Our essays are indexed here.
Just a few sites of many possible resources examining post-structuralist (and related) thinkers. Dumb stuff

Thought for the month

I spent thirty-three years and four months in active service as a member of our country's most agile military force - the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from a second lieutenant to major-general. And during that period I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street, and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism...
Thus I helped to make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in...I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I brought the light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras 'right' for American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. I was rewarded with honors, medals, promotion. Looking back on it, I feel I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three city districts. We Marines operated on three continents.
