Booze Cruise ( & Dinner Cruise)

the Bahama Mama The Booze Cruise and the Dinner Cruise both use the same boat, the two level Bahama Mama that departs out of Port Lucaya harbor. The covered portion of the lower level contains the bar, DJ booth, restrooms, and some seating. The open-air forward portion of the lower level is used as the stage and dance floor. The covered upper level contains tables and chairs and is used for the Dinner Cruise. Most evenings are just the Booze Cruise but three evenings are a combo Booze and Dinner Cruise. If you just paid for the Booze Cruise ($39 per person in Summer 2000 including transportation to and from Club Fortuna) then you stay on the lower level. If you paid for the Dinner Cruise ($59 per person) then you have run of the entire boat.

Dinner Companions On our trip we chose to do the Dinner Cruise. You start out by going up to the upper level and choosing a table. Each table has room for about eight people so you get the chance to meet some interesting people for dinner companions. Unless, of course, you go as a group of eight who all already know each other, but then you really miss out. You'd never guess that we'd recommend taking the opportunity of meeting new people, huh?

Eatin' Lobster The 'Dinner' part of the Dinner Cruise consists of a salad with a choice of three or so dressings, a steak, a lobster tail, and a baked potato. Dinner, in fact the whole cruise, also includes unlimited Bahama Mamas or lemonade for the young and the teetotalers. Everything is brought to you at your table starting with the salad. Then a plate with the steak, lobster, and potato is served along with sour cream for the potato and melted butter for the potato and lobster. If I had to rate dinner, I'd say the salad and potato were good, the lobster excellent, and the steak, well, let's just say they believe in 'well done' while I think that a steak that doesn't 'moo' when you stick a fork in it is burnt. Actually it wasn't bad just a good bit more done than I would have preferred. For dessert they offer a choice of Pound Cake or Banana Bread. On our trip the Banana Bread was the better choice as the Pound Cake was a little on the dry side. The whole time you're eating dinner they keep on bringing the Bahama Mamas - they really don't want you to get thirsty.

Cruise Sunset The cruise is timed such that sunset arrives during the latter part of dinner. During the whole cruise so far, the boat has been moving slowly out from Port Lucaya. What this means is that the rear of the boat is toward the sunset. If you want the best view, choose a table near the rear of the upper level and sit on the side facing the rear of the boat.

Limbo!! Once dinner is done you ought to move on down to the lower level and try and catch up with all the people down there. There's good music, dancing, and, of course, plenty of Bahama Mamas. There was also some entertainment in the form of a limbo dancer. This guy was good - he got under a limbo stick that was held up by a pair of longneck beer bottles - and he had on roller skates to boot! Enjoy your cruise because before you know it you're pulling up to the dock in Port Lucaya and it's time to head home.
