Rooms
|
|
Club Fortuna contains 276 rooms in 24 tropical pastel colored two story buildings.
22 of the buildings are alike in that they contain 12 rooms - six on each level.
The two buildings closest to the beach each contain 6 rooms. The
buildings
are divided into three groups called Abacos, Bimini, and Cays. When you're assigned
your room the key will say something like Abacos 1211 which translates
to Building Group = Abacos, Building Number = 1, Floor = 2,
Room Number = 11.
The buildings are all two stories with all the balconies on the front side
and open air walkways on the back side from which you enter your room. Each
building has an outdoor staircase to get between levels and the upper and
lower level walkways are all connected between buildings.

As you enter your room there'll be a six-foot closet on one side and a full
bath on the other. Located inside the closet is the safe for valuables.
When you check in, they'll ask you if you want the key to the safe - it
doesn't cost anything but there is a $100 fee if you lose the key.
The bathroom has a large vanity with mirror and sink, a toilet, and a shower.
The shower is actually larger than a standard bathtub but the side with the
curtain is only about six inches high so you couldn't fill it up like a tub.
The main part of the room has a dresser with chair, nightstand, two
queen size beds, and a cable television. When you check in, in addition to
your room key, you'll also get the remote control for the TV. When you go
to check out, don't forget to bring back the remote (like we did) or else
you'll have to go back to your room and get it.
Another option you'll have when checking in is whether or not to have the
phone activated for outside calling. If you choose to have it activated,
they'll want to run your credit card and the minimum charge will be $20.
From what we've heard long distance calls cost, it wouldn't be hard to
meet the minimum. We've always chosen not to activate the phone - you're
on vacation - who needs it?
One final thing about the rooms is that the floor is saltillo tile. Some
people seem to think this is a bad thing but it actually works out great.
The tile is smooth and feels nice and cool on your bare feet. The real
plus to this type of floor over carpeting is that you actually have a
chance of getting the sand out which means no problems with sand in the
sheets.

The end wall of the room consists a wood-louvered window, a regular glass
window, and a swinging glass door out to the balcony.
Below the two windows is the heater/air-conditioner that you control.
The balcony is the full width of the room and about four of five feet deep.
There are two cushioned outdoor chairs along with a small table. All the
balconies, whether on the ground floor or upper level, have wooden railings
on the front and solid walls separating your balcony from those of your
next door neighbors. Speaking of next door neighbors, the place must be
built pretty solidly as we've never had any problems whatsoever with noise
coming from adjoining rooms.

And finally, here's a sequence of photographs that together form a
panoramic view of what we could see from our
balcony of room Abacos 1211. Looking full left you can see the other
Abacos buildings. Moving to the right you can see the gazebo, the main
bar, and the swimming pool. And looking full right you can see out to
the beach.

Grounds
|
|
The grounds and landscaping at Club Fortuna very successfully convey a
'Tropical Paradise' feeling. The low-rise buildings with flowering vines
growing up the railings - the palm trees everywhere loaded with coconuts -
the little lizards scampering around - all combine to create the atmosphere.
The grounds are very well maintained with activities ranging from
groundspeople keeping any trash
picked up to workers changing out the tables and chairs for freshly cleaned ones
to landscapers pruning the old growth from the palm trees.
Here are some pictures of
scenes from around the grounds
of Club Fortuna.

In what is fast becoming a Bahamas tradition for her,
Maryann has taken many photographs of sunrises at Club Fortuna. Those taken
from the beach are located on this website
under that corresponding area. Remaining are several taken from various
other locations
around the grounds.
