Pool
|
|
At the center of the activities at Club Fortuna is the
pool located between the main bar and the beach.
Activities planned in the pool include water aerobics, water polo tournaments,
SCUBA sampling, etc. and activities on the pool apron include things like daily
Meringue (sp?) dance lessons and bingo. The pool is about 75 feet long and has
gentle steps into each end. The depth is 3 feet at each end and slopes toward the
center where the depth is 5 feet. There are loads of reclining chairs around the perimeter
and there are also tables with umbrellas.
The water is cool, clear, and is fresh water and they clean and vacuum the pool early
every morning.

Beach
|

Club Fortuna sits on its own
private beach
that consists of almost a quarter of a mile of beautiful white sand.
Pine trees, palm trees, and manmade 'Tiki Huts' are scattered about to provided
plenty of places to get some shade. There are also plenty of reclining chairs
spread around the beach. The waves are very gentle and the water is that classic
Caribbean turquoise color. The beach is kept very clean and once a week they even
get a tractor out to rake up any seaweed that has accumulated at the waterline.

If you feel like it, you can take long walks up and down the beach in either direction
away from Club Fortuna.
To the east (to the left as you're walking from the pool to the beach)
you'll only encounter a couple of large houses that are set well back from the beach and
not much (or anyone) else. To the west (to the right) you're heading toward what they
call 'Millionaires Row' and you'll see some major league mansions. Even with these though
you seem to have the beach to yourself. About ten minutes walk west is a popular little beachfront
bar called Club Caribe that we keep meaning to check out.

About 20 yards or so directly off the center of the beach, Club Fortuna has its own
small reef. It's simple to pick up an underwater camera in the on-site drugstore,
get your snorkeling gear at the beach shack, and take a leisurely swim out to the reef
and end up with lots of great pictures of fish, lobster, coral, etc.
The water is very clear and is no more that six or seven feet deep at high tide.

In keeping with her tradition, Maryann took some spectacular photographs of sunrises
over the beach. We've posted a dozen of these here and in the interest of download times,
they're divided into a
Set #1
and a
Set #2,
each of which contain six images.
