Although the setting of this resort is one of beauty and ambiance, the accommodations are less than desirable. It is far removed from island activity and the entertainment at the resort is geared toward the family. My sister and I have been to the island on several occasions and found the resort to be less than friendly regarding having friends visit. To have to pay for a friend to visit you while staying in a timeshare owned unit was unacceptable and appalling. After 3 days of paying outrageous taxi fares to get to civilization, we checked out and went to another resort with daytime activity and superb nightlife. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded vacation or bringing the children, then this place is for you. If you are looking for fun. partying, dancing, and meeting people, stay closer to the airport. Club Fortuna is not the place for you!

Stayed at Fortuna a few weeks ago and loved it. Plentiful choice of food. There were always at least five or six entree choices for dinner and a sit-down, non-buffet restaurant was also there. All-inclusive means unlimited booze, plenty of cold drinks while at beach and no tipping, no extra charges. Staff is great. Beach is lovely and accomodations are OK, not great. Cab ride to casino is about $13 and there are five golf courses available for play. I checked out of the hotel and didn't owe anything. I will go back next year.

Hi Vivian. If you're staying at Club Fortuna, it is an all-inclusive, isn't it? Includes all meals, drinks, and water sports other than motorized. As for renting a car, I believe it can be quite expensive, as much as $50.00 per day (maybe more) plus deposit, gas, insurance, etc. Also, in case you aren't aware, they drive on the opposite side of the road than we do here in the states. Could get a little confusing. There are plenty of taxis to take you anywhere you want to go. Kinda expensive though, charging for EACH person in your party! Some resorts have a courtesy van to take you to the casino & marketplace. And buses can take you to the grocery and marketplace, a cheaper form of transportation. Once you arrive, free info brochures should be available upon check-in answering any questions you may have regarding transportation, etc. Hope this helps!

My wife and I went last year. It was exceptional. You can actually enter the country with $18 (the departure tax), never spend any money and never leave the compound. The all enclusive is ALL inclusive. The grounds, beach all are clean. The foods not bad (don't expect to go into town and get better food - it's not going to happen). It's a great bargain. Expect LOTS of Europeans and South Americans - English is spoken by the staff (mainly Swiss & German) but I don't think we heard more than a few people speaking English other than ourselves. The entertainment was great - staff members during the day and entetainers at night. Awesome beach, awesome swimming pool and day activities.
I don't know where you live but we went in Sept and it was massively humid. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale and it wasn't like this but the breeze off the ocean always kept the dining room & bar area nice.
Another thing - it's about 7-8 miles north of town which makes it very cozy - which means you'll see few people on the beach (only those staying at the resort).
I have nothing negative to say about this place. I did a search on Altavista for "Club Viva Fortuna" - that's how I found your message. I'm starting to plan for this year. Heck of a buy for the money.
We rented a pink Jeep from town to explore the island - don't waste your time as there's really nothing to do in town (Freeport - tourist trap - junk plastic stuff and t-shirts).
The exceptions:
There's an incredible garden (palms, toucans - great photo op) about a mile or so north of the compound - you can rent Yamaha scooters at the compound cheaply - don't bother with town. It ain't much. Poverty. Plus gas was more than $3.00/gallon then and it's gone through the roof since then.
Barbary Beach - about 7 miles north of the compound. Looks like something out of a Robinson Carosoe movie and geez is it SECLUDED. NO PEOPLE. My wife enjoyed it as it's a legal nude beach as well. We took the Jeep out to the state park and never saw more than 1 other car on any trips north of the compound.
The water is green, clear and beautiful.
This help?
P. S.
The last night my wife and I went down to the beach and sat and watched the stars - she saw her first shooting star! Plus from living in heavily populated areas all my life I've seen pictures of the Milky Way but didn't really understand the depth and trillions of stars till sitting on that beach that last night. Wow.

Just returned from Club Fortuna. Really enjoyed the laid back beach. There are lots of activities at F., but you have to ask or find Vicki at the customer service desk. Some are posted outside dining hall, so look for it.If you make reservations at the "italian" place to eat, ask about the lobster or turf and surf you can pay extra for. Might want to take some bottled water, all the water in the area tastes, well, ocean-y. Also wear your blue bracelet in cab returning to club if you go out, else they aren't too happy to let you back in!!! Cabs are just outside the gate. The older the cab the cheaper the ride. People come to the beach to sell T-Shirts for $5. You can get them at the straw market 3 for $10. Bargaining at straw market is a blast!

we just returned 5/24/00 from club viva fortuna beach at freeport.this was definitly the way to go at club viva fortuna beach!everything that was included in our trip was inclusive.the food was assume.you can get the snorkel gear for nothing and play around at the swimming area or for $15.00 per person, they will take you out about 1 mile and you can snorkel there.our guide was great!one word, take an underwater camera with you for some great shots.pictures doesn't do this place any justice! you have to see for yourself!i would also sugest the dolphin excursion on this trip. it cost $50.00 per person which includes your taxi fare to and from the dolphins.you should also take an underwater camera there, too.they will get you wet!a few words about the place.the staff was great and spoke english, mon.there is also more to do there with water sports at the pool and in the recreation hall where you could learn different types of native dances.at night, there was also stuff going on at the{what we called}the stage there.the bar was open from10:00am till 1:00am.that is 15 hours!and all was free!we had a great time and we gave two thumbs up!!!!!!go and have a great time.

For a girl's getaway weekend - we are trying to decide between the two. Some of us like the all inclusive style of Club Viva, but others like the way the Lucayan sounds sinces it's been remodeled.
Any info would be appreciated!

The Club Fortuna is so beautiful. There is so much to do at the Fortuna you could be busy all day or relax and be pampered. The food is terrific (I put on seven pounds the last time I was there). The Fortuna has a LARGE private beach that is just wondreful. Most of the public beaches in the Bahamas are not so great. I would highly recommend the Fortuna. My family will be returning there again in a fe
