Fantasy Football '97
Back to Fantasy Football Front Page Introduction (August 31st, 1997) We'll be covering two Fantasy Football Leagues this year. One of them, already set with ten players, is CNNSI Full Contact Pele's League, named after soccer greatest Pele. Four Sao Paulo teams will be playing against teams from around the world, including Portugal and Porto Rico. Carlos Curro owns the Sao Paulo 55ers, while Luis Curro owns the Sao Paulo Hard Plays. The "Royer Brothers", big football fans, are also in this league, as Marcos Royer is the Sao Paulo Golpes Baixos owner, and Leandro Royer coaches the Sao Paulo CCM. The other league will be on ESPN's Fantasy Football '97, named Global Football League. It'll cover the league where two Sao Paulo teams, the outstanding Travelers and the underdogs Big Passaros, joining as expansion teams (they played in League 1061 last year) will be playing along with eight other teams from the US. Last year, on FF96, the Travelers scored the most points and had the best regular season record in the league, but the Big Passaros, the last seeded team (4th) for the playoffs, defeated the Travelers in the first round and finished with the second place, behind a team named JEFF THE PSYCHIC, the winner who already said he won't be able to play in the same league this year. Also, I'll try to cover a Head-To-Head Fantasy Game I play every year since 1995 with my brother, Luis Curro. We select a total of 22 players (4 QB, 5 RB, 5 WR, 4 TE, 4 K) and 2 Defesive/Special Teams units each. There're no trades or waivers/free agents allowed (that's why we have such big rosters, you have to stick with them until the end!), and we go head-to-head in each of the seventeen weeks of the NFL, with a seven player (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K) and one defense lineup. The scoring is simple:
In the first two editions of the head-to-head, Carlos Curro won them both, with 11 wins and 6 losses in '95, and 11 wins, 1 tie and 5 losses in '96.
