Global Football League Week 2 Reviews - Tuesday, September 9th (Check the Final
Scores) Week 2 just came to an end this Monday, when the Kansas City Chiefs had a remarkable come from behind win over the Oakland Raiders. WR Andre "Bad Moon" Rison scored the game winning TD, on a pass by ex-49ers QB Elvis Grbac. As for Fantasy Football owners, the game really mattered to Carlos Curro and Edward Haggerty, as the Sao Paulo Travelers game against the New London Wacker Boyz II had two players, one for each team, to play on Monday Night. But the battle went in favor of the Travelers, as WR Tim Brown scored 7 fantasy points, while the Boyz RB Greg Hill was held by the Oakland defense all night long, gaining only 53 yards and scoring not even once. The final score was 63-41 for the Travelers, who are now surprisingly at 2-0, while the Boyz dropped to 1-1. The Screaming Meanies continue their winning streak by beating the Kauai Rainbows, 46-34. The Meanies (2-0) got 11 fantasy points by RB Terrell Davis, but the real factor in this matchup was the struggle in the Rainbows' offense. Most of all, starting QB Brett Favre had a horrible game, scoring only 3 points, and the only TD scored by the team came from the Denver Broncos defense. Although the Rainbows have a good lineup, they are off to a slow start (0-2), thanks to slow starts by Favre and TE Shannon Sharpe. Although not being able to match the 92 points they scored last week, the Sao Paulo Big Passaros managed more than enough to defeat the Bloody Sabbaths, 56-30. Again, the Passaros (2-0) were led by QB Drew Bledsoe's four TD passes and 21 points, and a surprise in the backfield, as Jaguars RB James Stewart saw some goal line action this Sunday, scoring twice. The Sabbaths (0-2) struggled badly, as they had four players scoring 2 points or less, including minus-2 performances by QB Tony Banks and WR Eddie Kennison. Seems like Kordell Stewart might get another chance as a starter, but not in Week 3, as the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a bye. The best offense this week came from The Lounge Lizards in their 76-55 win over the New York Freaky Fat Cats. The Lizards (2-0) had strong games by RB Natrone Means (2 TD's), K Jeff Wilkins (16 points) and the New England Patriots defense (14 points). The Cats (0-2), still using their three RB lineup, got 12 points by RB Barry Sanders, but the other two didn't help, as Marshall Faulk and Chris Warren combined for only 3 points. The only wide receiver of the lineup played well, as Carl Pickens scored 10 points. But it wasn't good enough, as the New York team is still winningless. The last game of the week was between the Da Kine Hawaiian and the Crown City Thorns, both losers in their Week 1 matchups. The Thorns had the worst offense then, but this week it came alive, scoring 71 points and beating the Hawaiian, who could only score 46. The Thorns (1-1) showed plenty of offensive weapons, and were benefited by their "combo" Mitchell-Morton of the Lions (12 and 11 points, respectively), RB Curtis Martin (13) and kicker Mike Hollis (19), not to mention a much better performance by the Steelers defense. For the Hawaiian (0-2), the bright spot was RB Jerome Bettis, as "the bus" started to roll this week with a nice performance (12 points). WR Shawn Jefferson also helped with 10 of his own, but the Thorns were just uncanny.
