How to use the Zone's Ignore Feature
by Plodd and others
The Zone gives us several ways to screen the messages we receive on our
screens.
I find A, B & C useful.
I don’t use D myself, but have included it as I can see that others might
find it useful.
A. In the lobby chat window
If you don’t wish to read someone’s contributions to the lobby chat :
Right click on their name in the right-hand column
Select "Ignore".
B. Zone Messages (zms)
If you don’t wish to receive any zms eg while concentrating on playing
:
Click on your Zone Friends icon (the white Z on blue background on
your task-bar) to open it.
Select "Options"
Select "Show me as Do Not Disturb"
To reverse this, eg so your friends can zm you again once you have finished
playing , repeat steps 1 & 2 but this time for step 3 select "Show me
as Online"
C. If you don’t wish to receive zms from particular people
(but still be able to receive them from everyone else) :
Click on your Zone Friends icon to open it.
Select "Options"
Select "Privacy"
Select "Custom"
Select "People who cannot see me"
Enter their names into the Add Person box (be sure to spell their names
correctly)
Select Apply
Select OK>
Alternate method:
There is a shortcut for C. When you get a ZM from someone you do not want
to receive from any more, right-click on the ZM. Choose from the pop-up
menu.
Now you will appear as "off-line" on the friends list of the people
you have entered and they will be unable to zm you.
Zone Friends keeps this list so, unless you change it, it will apply every
time you log on with the same name under which you customised your privacy.
D. If you wish to receive zms from your friends only
Click on your Zone Friends icon to open it.
Select "Options".
Select "Privacy.
Select "Only Friends can see me when I am online".
Select Apply.
Select OK.
Also, your friends list is a text file, usually located in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Internet Gaming Zone\Favorites under your zone ID. These
files can be copied and edited as you wish, but be sure to maintain the
various section titles. However, do NOT edit a zone ID's file while you
are logged on ZF with that zone ID.
