Without a doubt, the biggest single complaint in the rated backgammon
rooms is the inability to save or restore a game. It is also the one point
that nearly everyone agrees with (if you don't count the Zone staff!).
The biggest problem is when you suffer an involuntary disconnect (see
Boots & Incompletes), you have no opportunity
to restore your game. You get an incomplete, and eventually you will be
hit with a ratings penalty.
So why doesn't the Zone do something about it? Well, there only seems
to be two excuses...err reasons that I have heard.
First that the Zone doesn't have enough room to store the games.
If this is true, then why don't they stop storing non-rated games?
There is no reason that a non-rated game needs to be saved. Besides,
I have already heard that the game history is saved on matches - this
is how ZRatings came after all those players awhile back.
Besides you only need to store the game till it is restored and played
out. If after say, 30 days it still isn't finished, then have an automatic
way of finishing off the game. Look at the other game sites
for ideas.
