NAME: Alexander Lavelle Harris “Xander” AGE: 18 HEIGHT: 5’ 10” SKILLS: Witty Comments HAIR: Dark WARNING: Attracts dangerous beasts. Do not stand too close. CASE HISTORY: In a time of troubles, nothing is more valuable than a friend who will stand by you. The whole show is nothing more than one time of trouble, and Xander is one such friend. He provides comic relief at times when it is needed most (and, alas, some times when it isn't needed at all). As much as he plays up the goofy teenager, Xander has proven time and time again that he is sensitive, caring, and extremely dedicated. As for Xander in love... some fans feel that Xander never gets a break in love, while others think he is disgustingly promiscuous. Of his female interests on the show, here's the sum-up... BUFFY. Xander fell for her on day one, and since then, his feelings haven't changed. If she said the word, he would go to her in a second. What's gonna happen there? Joss only knows. AMPATA. She wasn't such a bad sort, and she really did care for Xander, though the whole mummy thing and sucking-the-life-out-of-people probably put a damper on their relationship. Poor girl. I doubt we'll see her again. WILLOW. For years, Xander did not return Willow's feelings for him, in part because he couldn't make himself feel something that he simply didn't feel, and in part because he was afraid of damaging their friendship. What changed? It wasn't that he suddenly woke up and realized she loved him. He definitely wasn't unaware of Willow's crush (he discovered it in "The Pack" and the subject came up several times later, including in "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered"). The so-called fluke in "Homecoming" was not a sudden realization on Xander's part so much as the surfacing of a truth he had known for quite some time (revealed in "Becoming II"): he loved her. And as he had known once, but wasn't sure since she began dating Oz -- she returned the feeling. But Fate (or Joss) is cruel. Willow also loves Oz, no question about it, and none of us can say who she loves more. Perhaps not even Willow herself. CORDELIA. The love-hate relationship that we all thought could never work... didn't. And yet there's still something heartbreaking about it, perhaps the fact that she really loved him, and she sacrificed everything for him (e.g. her social life, hey, remember this is *Cordelia* after all). And how did Xander feel about her? Did he really love her, or was he just a jerk getting a sexual thrill while lusting after Buffy and Willow? Since Cordy's gone from the show, I guess we'll never know. What a pity. FAITH. Why are the people Xander scores with always monsters of some sort? Incan mummies, evil bitches, rogue slayers. Poor guy. Of all the people Xander has gotten close to, Faith is probably one of the nastiest. Unlike Ampata and Cordy (and maybe Anya), Faith felt nothing for Xander -- she just used him and threw him away. She probably hurt him a great deal more than he's let us see. ANYA. The cute little demoness is back, but just how substantive is their relationship? I'm willing to give her a chance with Xander. She might still become human. Hey, if Cordy could do it... Hopefully, Xander's life and relationships with everyone else on the show will settle down in a happy ending for all. SPECIAL NOTES: Read a short, reflective story about Xander set in early Season Three. |
