Pyramid
Power:
Variety is the Spice of Life
(Page three of a three
page article)
We all have our own particular
tastes and opinions about the foods we will eat. Because of this,
over the years a large number of Food Guides have come out, some based on
the Pyramid, and some unique to the country they arise from. There
is even a Pagoda shaped Food Guide for Chinese Residents.
It's interesting to look at other countries and see parallel
food
guides in different shapes and formats. For example,
Canada uses what appears to be a section of a rainbow. The
Canadian Food Guide to Healthy People, specifically states
it is for
people four years of age and up. It makes use of four food groups: Grain
Products, Vegetables and Fruit, Milk Products, and Meat and
Alternatives.
There have also been Food guide Pyramids
adapted for use by others. Chile has adapted their version of the
Food Guide Pyramid. There are also Asian, Mediterranean, and
Vegetarian Food Guide Pyramids. As a partner to good preventive
health, it is also fitting that there should be an Activity
Pyramid Guide. Other adaptations include Food Guide Pyramids for
older Americans, and for Teens.
The Association of American Indian
Physicians has created a Native
American Food Guide which uses traditional foods within the
basic
structure of the Food Guide Pyramid. Below are links to follow if
