Expansion Packs (if any) Battlefield 1942 Genre: First Person Shooter Review: The year is 1942, during WWII, and you are a soldier in either the allied forces, or the Axis (a.k.a. Nazi, Japan). You mainly play this game in a massive multiplayer online game. It gets to be pretty fun. Some battles include Iwo Jims, Kursk, and Market Garden. Also, there is a new MOD out for this game called Desert Combat (See 'Mod' Section). This game is not one of those games where its main function is Single Player. This is a game of online playing with people you probably never ever met before. Games can get up to 60 people (whoa). The online community is normally very friendly, but sometimes there are people who only want to ruin the game for other people. These are the people to watch out for, and how to stop them: TKers: Team killers, or people that kill their team mates. The only way to get rid of this is to vote kick them. Laggers: These dudes have high ping, and you constantly get connection problems. Again, you have to vote kick them. Base Rapers: These guys just don’t know when to give up. They constantly go to where you spawn and kill you the instant you spawn. Yet again, you have to vote kick them. This game is WICKED fun (and it won Game Of The Year 2 years in a row in Electronic Gaming Magazine). GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW! Grapics: 10 Game Play: 10 Gamer Level: Intermediate Overall: 10 Price: $29.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Road To Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII Civilization 3 Genre: Strategy Review: The age of Civilization has dawned, and you are the ruler. Pick from 16 nations (which include Rome, Egypt, Japan, China, England, France, Germany, Babylon, Greece, Russia, Zululand, Persia, Aztecs, Iroquois, India, and America), and you can build about 50 or more World Wonders (Like the Great Wall, The Great Lighthouse, The Eiffel Tower, etc), and you can win in 7 different ways, such as conquest, culture, and space race. Game modes include New Game, Quick Game, and Scenario. This game also has 6 different levels of difficulty, which are (from Easiest to Hardest) Chieftain, War Lord, Regent, Monarch, Emperor, and Deity. The graphics of this game could be a HELL of a lot better, but they still are pretty good. This is because they probably just used a repeat animation button, and it turned out not to flow very well (a.k.a. a shovel suddenly going from above the dudes head to stuck in the ground). This game is extremely addicting, though it can get pretty boring at times. Graphics: 6 Game Play: 7 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 6.5 Price: $39.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Play The World, Conquests Civilization III: Play The World *EXPANSION PACK* Genre: Strategy Review: You are ruler of your very successful civilization. Now you can take your abilities to a WHOLE new level; online. In this unique Expansion Pack, you obtain new civilizations you probably haven’t seen since Civilization 1. They include Mongolia, Spain, Ottoman Empire, Celtic, Arab Empire, Carthage, and Korea. Also, this game includes a brand new concept of Capture the princess. That is basically capture the flag, with a twist. Each Civ has a Princess, who can only move from one city to another. The goal is to sack your enemies city that has the princess inside it, which you have no clue where it is (your best bet: the center of the Empire. Good luck getting there). And finally, it has The Online Play Mode, the main feature of this game. First, you start off at a main screen, where you pick which game room you go into. Then, you get to meet the players, and discuss game options. Then, you go to the Game Options Screen, where the host picks the game options, with your help of course. Then, onto the game (well duh). This game is a great thing to buy. If you like the original, you’ll love this one. Graphics: 6 Game Play: 8 Gamer Level: Intermediate (must be good at Single player to even stand a chance online). Overall: 7 Price: $19.99 Status: Buy Civilization III: Conquests *EXPANSION PACK* Genre: Strategy Review: In this most recent addition to the Civ 3 collection, there are plenty of new things to keep you VERY busy (trust me, I have had the game for 4 months and am only in 1700 AD). This game will astonish you, even more so than Play The World. The new civilizations are Sumeria, The Hittites, The Netherlands, Portugal, The Byzantines, Inca, and Maya. There are 2 new difficulty modes, for those who either wanted harder than what they gave you, or something in-between to levels. They are Demi-god, which is 2 spots left of Sid, which is the new Hardest level (trust me. It’s HARD!). Of course they updated and removed some glitches from the Online play, but that is not the focus of this game. The new mode…. is Conquests. Here, you choose from a series of preset levels, where you play for a certain time period (like Rise Of Rome, Fall Of Rome, WWII in the Pacific, ETC) and have to achieve a certain goal. This game rocks. Go buy it if you haven’t already. Graphics: Still 6 Game Play: 9 Gamer Level: Intermediate Overall: 7.5 Price: $29.99 Status: Buy Note: Conquests comes with Play The World included. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 Genre: Strategy Review: Overall great game. In this game, the Soviets launch a full scale invasion again (previously, in Red Alert 1, they invaded Europe), but this time, the new Premier, Premier Alex Romanov is Invading the USA with the help of his mind controller friend, Yuri. Play as the Allies and prevent the mass takeover, or play as the soviets and try to take over the USA. As USA, your main unit is the GI, who can garrison himself with sand bags around him, and he becomes tougher and stronger. They also have Tanya, who is a secret agent who can set det packs and blow up buildings and such (its REALLY fun setting det packs on Attack Dogs ^_^). USA also has the Chronosphere, a device that can teleport things from one place to another instantly, and a Weather Control Machine, its function is obvious. The soviets main power derives from their Tanks and Yuri. Their super weapons are the Iron Curtain, which can make any unit, except infantry, invincible for a couple of minutes, and a Nuclear Missile. This game is ESPECIALLY fun online, where you can play your friends, and even transfer maps that they have made. This is a great game to own. Graphics: 7 Game Play: 8 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 7.5 Price: $9.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Yuris Revenge Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 Yuris Revenge *EXPANSION PACK* Genre: Strategy Review: The war is over…. or is it? Yuri is back, but this time, not with the soviet union. He now has his own army, and has planted Psychic Dominators all over the world, and plans to take over everyone (literally. He’s trying to steel their minds!). The only way to stop him is to go back in time, and wipe Yuri out before he has a chance to strike. You can be either the Allies or the Soviets, because they are both technically working together to stop Yuri. However, you cannot play as Yuri, except online, or in Skirmish mode. His army mainly derives of base defences, and his Super Weapons are the Genetic Mutator and Psychic Dominator. New Allied and Soviet units include The Battle Fortress, a tank that is HUGE, and the Siege Chopper, a helicopter with an artillery cannon. Also, in skirmish mode, you can now pick where you start (yay). This is a worthwhile thing to buy. I’d get it. Graphics:7 Gameplay: 9 Gamer Level: Intermediate Overall: 8 Price: BUY IT WITH RED ALERT 2 IN RED STRIKE FOR ONLY $19.99! Or just buy it alone for $9.99 Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun Genre: Strategy Review: Fun classic. Choose either GDI or NOD, and fight against the opposing team in the classic C&C format. This is also a great online game. This game is fun and I definitely recommend it. Rating: 11 (cheesy graphics) Price: Only $6.78! Status: Buy Decent 3 Genre: First Person Shooter Review: DUDE! WHAT WAS I SMOKING WHEN I BOUGHT THIS!? This game just BLOWS. Don’t buy it. The plot SUCKS, the graphics SUCK, everything SUCKS. The plot is, well to kill this CEO dude who sent your ship hurtling towards the sun. His company is based on making robots evil and filled with viruses, and sell those to the military on Earth (it’s based on Mars). Your job is to kill all of the robots while piloting this really bad ship through the different facilities, and then kill the CEO dude. The crazy thing is you pilot through places that have air, and you could just hop out and shot them with a machine gun. But NOOO, they make you pilot the ship, and you can’t get out. This game is SO not worth it. You can’t even play online!! And worst of all, the graphics are so unbelievably bad that you can hardly tell what’s a robot and what’s a good guy! Don’t get it. Actually, I think it’s so bad they might not make it any more. They might. But still, don’t get it. Graphics: 1 Game Play: 1 Gamer Level: Novice Overall: 1 Price: $2.99 Status: BURN IT! Delta Force 2 Genre: First Person Shooter Review: This game is ok, I mean, its old and all, and the graphics aren’t great, but it has good game play and a classic online play mode. If you want to get it, what I would recommend is to buy the jewel case called Delta Force Trilogy. Rating: 8 Price: Single: $9.99 Jewel Case: $9.99 Status: Buy if ya feel like it. Links 2001 Genre: Golf Review: Not a bad game, if your a golf freek. I mean, this game is ment for old geezers qho cant get out on the course! It has some great features and all, like create a player, and online mode, but it is not aimed for teens! Dont get this game for yourself, but if your dad loves golf, and needs something to do when there is snow or rain outside, this makes a great gift. Rating: 9 (for being a great gift for your dads) Price: $12.99 Status: Buy if gift. If not, NOT WORTH IT! MechWarrior 4: Vengeance Genre: First Person Shooter Review: This game is AWESOME! In this game, a planet is taken over by a group of MechWarrior Traitors, using their enemy’s mechs. The entire royal family is killed, except for the son. The son wishes to avenge their death, by wiping out the enemies forces, and killing their leader. Although strongly outnumbered, he is determined to fight. The graphics of the game rock! The explosions look so real, you'd think it was real. The game play is sheer greatness (except that there are too many buttons). The plot is to fight this group of evil renegades who killed your entire family, and plan on killing everyone on your planet. Each level you earn new things you can use to your advantage, and after a while you even get people to be your sidekick(s). Also, you can play this game online, and each game can have about 25-30 people in it. Get this game. It's awesome. Graphics: 10 Game Play: 9 Gamer Level: Intermediate Overall: 9.5 Price: $19.99 Status: Buy Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 Genre: Strategy Review: Roller Coaster Tycoon is back, and better then ever. With Bigger Parks, Vertical Scenery Construction, All-New Rides and Attractions, and Increased Customization Options for Rides and Attractions, you can build the theme park of your dreams! This game is much better than Roller Coaster Tycoon (1), and is a good deal. You can not only work on the main parks (which are divided into 3 categories; Beginner, Challenging, and Expert), but you can also work on real world parks, which include Six Flags Belgium, Six Flags Holland, Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Six Flags Over Texas. Also, you can build your own theme parks in the Scenario Editor. Also, you can divide your park into themed zones, such as space and Wild West. There are also some brand new coasters, which are Giga, Spinning Wild Mouse, and Inverted Impulse. It may have crappy graphics, but this is a good game. Graphics: 5 Game Play: 9 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 7 Price: $19.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Wacky Worlds and Time Twister Sim City 3000 Genre: Simulation Review: This game has to be the crappiest game ever made by Maxis. All you do in this game is build stuff, and wait for bad things to happen, so you can stop them and continue waiting. Even though this is still much better than Sim City 2000, this game still sucks. Also, the graphics just BLOW (and so does the background music). DO NOT GET THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS!!!!! Its that bad. This game has literally NO PLOT! None, whatsoever. This game should burn in the depths of hell (I cant believe that I even bought it myself!). I mean, it is so INCREDIBLY BORING! I can’t think of anything more boring than this. This game isn’t even worth having an online mode. So Maxis, if you are reading this DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE SIM CITIES! YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE WORKED FOR! Graphics: 0 Game Play: 0 Gamer Level: Extra Nooby Novice Overall: dude, I’m NOT gonna go there Price: $9.99 (that’s $99 too many) Status: Go into the store, burn the game on the spot, and piss on the ashes Price: No need to tell you, 'cuz ya aint gettin' it! Status: GET IT AWAY!!!! ITS HIDEOUS!!!! ITS VILE!!!! ITS EVIL!!!! The Sims Genre: Simulation Review: Not much to say about this game. You can design your very own family, build their house, and shape (make or break) their lives. For instance, you can burn down their homes, or make them billionaires (it’s really up to you). Some of the things you can build are a pool, a basketball court, a bathroom inside the kitchen, etc. This game is addicting, and it’s tremendous, especially with all the expansion packs out for it. You can buy this game in The Sims: Deluxe, or The Sims: Double Deluxe, which include some of the expansion packs. Graphics: 8 Game Play: 8 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 8 Price: Regular= Non Existent / Deluxe= $24.99 / Double Deluxe= $49.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Livin’ Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin’ Magic The Sims: Livin’ Large *EXPANSION PACK* Genre: Simulation Review: This expansion pack was the first to start them all. Here, there are many new items you can build, such as genie in a lamp, all new couches, new beds, new wallpaper, and new tiling. Also, there are new jobs such as Slacker, Musician, and Journalist. Finally, you can have up to 5 neighborhoods at a time. Not much else to this game. It’s a worthwhile expansion pack to have. Graphics: 8 Game Play: 6 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 7 Price: Only available now with Deluxe Editions Status: Well, if you have The Sims, then you probably already have it. If not, don’t bother. The Sims: Vacation *EXPANSION PACK* Genre: Simulation Review: This pack has some stuff NEVER seen before. First of all, you get 10 neighborhoods to work with, but you also get 10 islands (1 for each neighborhood) of pure resort vacation. The top part of the island has 3 lots of ski resort style lodging. Next level down there are 3 lots of wilderness camping for the outdoors type person. Finally, there are 3 lots of beach side resort style lodging, fully equipped with volleyball nets, pools, and top notch hotels. Also, there are some new interactions, and you actually get to pick what you can talk about! How cool is that? Not much else to say, except go to thesims.com and download some of the really cool homes and resorts that people just like you have uploaded. Graphics: 8 Game Play: 8 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 8 Price: $19.99 Status: Buy StarCraft Genre: Strategy Review: StarCraft is a classic game of total control. There are 3 armies; Terran (humans), Zerg (bug like alien things), and Protos (a highly advanced group of aliens). You start off as a Terran commander, and your job is to protect your colony using all means necessary. Your view is a top view of the units, and when you click on each unit, you are given a list of commands to perform (like attack, guard, build, etc). Every level has an overall objective that you must complete, or you fail your mission. After you beat Terran, you can be the Zerg, and try to destroy the Terrans. And after Zerg, you can play as Protos, and kill everyone. There is also skirmish mode, where you can create a game, be ANY of the 3 armies, and play ANYONE you like (out of those armies) and on ANY level there is. Also, you can play multiplayer online mode, where you can play against other REAL people in the world. This game also comes with the Campaign Editor, where you can create your own levels (like the one that I made in the Maps section). This game is a GREAT classic. The graphics may suck, but it’s a good game to have, because EVERYONE else has it or has heard of it. Graphics: 5 Gameplay: 9 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 7 Price: $11.99 Status: Buy Expansion Packs: Brood War WarCraft III Genre: Strategy Review: This game is a lot like StarCraft, except it’s in the middle-ages, has better graphics, better plot, and overall, a much better game. There are 4 armies to choose from this time; Ork, Human, Undead, and Night Elf. You start off with a Tutorial where you are the Orks, and it gives you an idea on how to play and what the storyline is. The story line is this: The Orks and the Humans have been at war for generations. Now a strange new foe comes in fireballs from the sky (probably from another planet), and they all must defeat this new enemy, while fighting themselves. After the tutorial, you play the Human campaign. Then comes Ork, then Night Elf, then finally Undead. This game is in 3D, and you can also adjust the camera angle, which is really cool. Also, this game can be played online with friends or dorks from around the world. There is only one flaw; when it shows the characters talking to each other, their mouths move like bad Japanese animation (translated into English). Their mouths move 2 seconds longer than the time it takes them to say the sentence in English! Well, you cant really blame them, because the company’s based in Korea. Oh well, no matter. This game still kicks a**. Go get it. Graphics: 9 Game Play: 10 Gamer Level: Beginner Overall: 9.5 Price: $29.99 (I DON’T BELIEVE IT! I BOUGHT IT AT WALMART FOR $40! Don’t get it at WalMart) Status: Buy (NOT at WalMart) Expansion Packs: Frozen Throne |
