Due South

dueSouth was a show that began airing in 1994 about a Mountie, Benton Fraser (Paul Gross), who travels to Chicago to catch his father's killer and ends up staying on as a dispatch of the Canadian Consulate. He forms a bond with Chicago detective Ray Vecchio (David Marciano). The show basically catalogs their experiences, cases, and relationships and manages to make fun of both Americans and Canadians in an exaggerated way. Ultimately, it's the combined wit of the two detectives that always gets the job done.
After the second season ended, in 1996, the show was sort of cancelled, but then revived for 26 more episodes, which were unfortunately the last ones. Callum Keith Rennie replaced Marciano as Ray Vecchio under the premise that the "real" Ray had to go deep undecover with the mob. The show lost a little of its flavor, but was still pretty good.

They also changed wolves, but that wasn't quite as important. (Although, it was pretty obviously a different dog if you're inclined to notice such thins.)
