A quick little note on miracles

What about miracles?

When it comes right down to it, skeptism of the Bible hinges entirely on its claims of miracles since Scripture has never been shown to be wrong in any relevant sense.

So we need to determine whether miracles happen or not.

First we begin by defining what a miracle is:

A miracle is a striking and religiously significant intervention of God in our system of natural causes beginning from outside of this self-contained system.

The concept of miracles presupposes, rather than sets aside, the idea that nature is a self-contained system of natural causes. - Unless there are irregularities, there can be no exceptions to them.

One reason skeptics deny that miracles happen is because they believe that there is no God (a creator outside of our system of reality), and obviously miracles are impossible if this is the case.

The scope of my web-site is to prove, through the reality of Jesus, that God does indeed exist. So those who hold this "No God" position against miracles should thoroughly examine this site.

Another reason for the denial of miracles is that they have never experienced one. And this is evidence, to them, that miracles have never happened in the entire course of human history.

But because they have never experienced a miracle does not mean that they haven't occured elsewhere. They would have to examine every alledged miracle story, sift through all the evidence on a case-by-case basis.

But that would be impossible because that kind of investigation would take lifetimes.

There have been cases where supposed "miracle-workers" have been shown to be out-and-out frauds. And though I agree whole-heartedly that these frauds ought to be exposed, it does not prove that all claims of miracles have themselves been frauds.

Some claim that science has proven that miracles are impossible (or that they can't be scientifically validated).

However, such scientific proof is categorically impossible, since science deals only with natural phenomenon.

A miracle, by definition, is supernatural (from outside of nature). It defies all physical laws or it wouldn't be a miracle in the first place.

A miracle must be beyond the ability of science to explain, and thus it is also beyond the ability of science to disprove.

Some alleged miracles can be shown to have been acts of nature. But the miracle would consist of an outside influence causing this natural phanomenon (either immediately or starting the chain of natural events at some point in the past).

Also the miracle may be in directing a person/people to a certain location at a certain time in order receive the benefits of the natural phenomenon.

So, what is the bottom-line concerning miracles?

Miracles can neither be proven nor disproven.

It is an act of faith to believe that an incident (one that was not expected and/or seems to violate the odds of probability) that has happened is the result of an "outside" God intervening in our lives.

It is also an act of faith (in the opposite direction) to believe that this incident was merely a coincidence-a freak of nature.

The question that has to be answered is, "Are miracles possible?"

There must be a God for miracles to be possible; which leads us to a more important and more fundamental question, "Does God exist?"

And, as stated above, that is the reason for this site. It is up to you to examine the evidence.

Christianity alone requires miracles!

Christianity is based upon miracles and the greatest miracle of all, the resurrection of Jesus.

This is not the case with Buddhism or Hinduism or Islam or any other of the world's religions (which get along quite well without miracles).

Their leaders left a philosophy of life and certain rules to follow which have no bearing upon whether Buddha, Krishna, Mohammed, etc. are alive or dead or even lived at all.

But the Christian faith stands or falls upon the sinless life, the sacrificial death, and the miraculous resurrection of Jesus.

Unlike Mohammed, Buddha, Confucious, or any other religious leader, none even dared to make such a claim. But the New Testament claims that Jesus said he would rise from the dead, and that He actually did.

If He didn't, Christianity is a fraud!
