My Fencing Journal
Day 2
Day: 2 Tuesday 11.06.01
Status: Beginner - 2nd Lesson (Bad)
Learned:
Footwork -
1. Hop and Advance
2. Hop, Advance, and Lunge
Practice: Today I did the footwork with the rest of the class today. Lets just say I was not very successful at it. Simon (instructor/mentor) stopped me twice to show me the correct footwork b/c I kept on doing it wrong. I don't know why, but I just keep on messing up. Maybe if I take it show I'll do better. I could barely keep up w/ the class. After footwork I practiced the swordplay or sword techniques with a partner. My partner was my friend Aksone. She was nice enough to take the lessons with me. We practiced: 1. beat and lunge 2. beat, parry, and riposte 3. beat and remise (see terms). The best part was after all the practicing, I actually got to fence!
Fenced: I beat Aksone when we were doing the actual fencing, but I think I just caught her in surprise. She probably didn't think that I was going to strike so quickly, but after I got two points, I think she got use to it and started striking back. The score was 3-2. Didn't win by much, but still won. ^_^
Thoughts: Wow I really suck at the footwork. It's as though I have two left feet. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised I've never been good at any type of footwork. I'm one of those people that if you say, "watch out its slippery", it would be too late. I would be on the floor rubbing whatever I fell on. Oh well, its all right. I'll just take some more time for me to learn. Simon told be to not be discouraged (not directly like that, but I'm sure that's what he meant). After class Simon gave, some pictures to put on my website (this one, see Gallery).
