Prisoner Cellars: Page 4
Axle, a Vampire Bat
Captured by Sabertache
I was once patrolling the grounds of Mossflower when I came across a cave.  Very strange cave it was, too.  A green bird was laying her eggs on top.  The cave had blue and green light coming from the small entrance.  I heard a deathly and unearthly noise coming from inside.  I took a deep breath and stepped in.  As I stepped into the entrance seemed to wided enough to fit an extra-large dinosaur.  As I strode in something swooped down at me.  I ducked under a boulder and stared at the creature.  I couldn't make out the shape.  It was medium size, it had long fangs and it had wings.  I looked harder and what I saw almost made me yell out loud.  It was a Vampire Bat.  I heard that they were great enemies of Redwall.  I turned and ran.  When I reached the entrance chamber the bat flew in front of me.  I had no choice.  I took out my sabre and hit the wall.  A big rock fell from the top.  It landed on the bat and knocked it out.  I picked it up and took it to the leader of Salamandastron.  I had captured my first prisoner.
Snaggletooth, a Ferret
Captured by Dandin
Once I was walking along a lovely country road, when I heard the cries of young creatures, mingled with the sound of a cracking whip.  I hurried to where the sound was coming from, which was in the dark trees.  I ran in and I saw a large ferret, with a single snaggled fang hanging sticking out from between his lips.  He had several slaves, some mice, and he was whipping them.  I said, "Hey! What do you think you're doin', VERMIN!"  Then he siezed a baby mouse and started laughing.  "Take a step closer and I kill the babe!" I threw my dagger at his gnarled head.  He leaped to the side, but the dagger caught his arm, pinning him to the tree.  Then I rushed forward with my glittering sword drawn, and I said, "You have tormented these little mice for too long!  Now you will suffer some of your own medicine!"  I grasped his whip from off the ground and started to beat him.  He screamed and wailed and tried to bribe me to stop  in a great show of cowardice.  Finally he fell unconcious. I retrieved my dagger from his arm, and dragged him back to the prison cells at Salamandastron.
Bloodwhisker, a Rat
Captured by Dandin
One day, at Salamandastron, I saw a lone figure scurrying across the beach to our mountain.  He knocked on the door and asked us to let him in.  We opened the door, and saw that he was a mouse, and a large one at that.  He said that he wanted to join us.  Of course, we said, "Of course you can join us, BigMouse."  He said, "How did you guess my name?"  Since it was evening, we had a great feast for our newcomer.  Later that night, when I was about to go to sleep, I heard a scuffling noise.  I silently ran down to the storage room, where the noise was coming from.  I quietly looked around the stone corner into the room.  I saw the two hares that had been my guards lying dead on the ground.  The mouse, which I now saw to be a rat, was starting to
eat one of them! I shouted in sheer anger!  Then he drew an arrow out of his quiver, wiped poison on it, and aimed at me.  Then he fired the arrow straight at my chest.  I leaped out of the way just in time, as the arrow hit the door.  It had caught the edge of my tunic, and I was pinned to the door.  I drew my dagger and I tore the tunic, freeing myself, then drew my sword.  With both weapons in my hands, I charged the rat.  He strung another poison arrow to his bowstring.  He fired it off.  I swung my sword up and split the arrow in two.  I slashed his stomach, and he slid to the ground, saying, "I give up.  Mercy."  In a hoarse voice.  I tied him up, then carried him up to Lord Tammo's dormitory, and told him the story.
Skanclaw the Stoat
Caught by Hon Rosie
I had been scouting along the coast for several days.  I had my long dirk with me, a weapon I usually carry around everywhere, for I favored it.  I was looking for sections of the horde of vermin that we had just beaten.  I saw a movement yonder beyond the dunes.  Ducking and weaving, I got close to the vermin.  There appeared to be five assorted types.  Suddenly I recognized a weasel.  He had been one of the few who had killed my parents!  I quickly checked the other vermin faces.  Nope, only the weasel.  Unhappy memories flooded through my mind, but I tried to push it aside.  I supposed that there were only five, and I would be able to take care of them fairly quickly.  I pulled out my dirk and rushed in.  "EUUULAAALIAAAAA!!"  The vermin jumped up, but something was wrong.  They didn't look frightened, as if they had laid some sort of trap.  They all pulled out their swords and started attacking me.  I thrust and parried until I had slain two of them.  Suddenly I felt something slam into my head, and I saw the floor rushing up to meet me before black covered my whole vision.  When I awoke, I found that I had been bound to a pole sticking up from the ground.  My neck was tied to the pole, and my paws were twisted cruelly around the pole, which was pretty thick, and tied tightly, and my footpaws were touching the ground, barely, and were also tied to the pole.  I could only look straight ahead, and, if I rolled my eyes around a bit, a little to each side.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the weasel coming towards me, twirling my dirk.  I got really angry.  "OK, sah, untie me right now.  Let's see how you are with yor blade, wot!  I'll fight you meself!"  The weasel snickered wickedly.  "You ain't gonna do 'nthing, bunny.  I killed yer parents.  Yer turn will be coming soon.  Hahaharrharr."  Saying this, he walked away.  Sobbing, I strained at my bonds.  I was getting choked, so I relaxed my neck to prevent from choking, when I found that I was able to get the rope into my mouth.  Barely, but enough so I could chew through the rope.  I started chewing furiously.  When my neck was free, I looked around.  There were ten vermin around.  So that's what had happened.  They had known that hares would be out scouting.  AUGH!  I was so frustrated!   Pulling at my paw bonds, I found that they had tied my paws with wire as well as with rope.  I gave a final sob when a stoat that had been sneaking up on me gave me a knock in the head, making me black out yet again.  (Oh man...by the time I'm done with this, I'm gonna have many lumps on me noggin!)  I was aroused when I felt my footpaws getting untied.  The blood, which had stopped circulating into my footpaws because of the tight bonds, started painfully flowing back into my footpaws.  I staggered.  The two vermin, a rat and a stoat, jerked me to my feet.  Angrily I kicked out with my footpaw, tripping the rat, and knocking the other senseless.  Quickly knocking out the rat, I sat down and somehow got my footpaws in front of me.  I chewed on the rope, which was strong, but not thick, and pulled my paws out of the tangled wire, scratching my paws while doing so.  I snuck through the camp, heading for the weasel who had killed my parents.  When he saw I was free, his eyes grew huge, and he reached for my dirk.  I tackled him before he could do so, and started punching him and kicking him.  I then jumped up and grabbed my dirk, finishing him off.  As the other vermin arrived to see what had happened, I killed them, for I had the element of surprise this time.  Finally, all were dead except the rat and stoat, who were still unconcious.  I waited for those two to revive.  The rat recovered first.  I told him, "You have a choice, rat!  You can fight me, hoping you will win, or you can come with me as my prisoner to Salamandastron."  The rat just jumped up, grabbed a blade, and ran at me.  I just sidestepped and ran him through.  "Stupid rodent."  I spat.  Then the stoat awoke.  I gave him the same choices as the rat.  Seeing that his rat friend was dead, he started stammering, "I...ii...I'll be yer prisoner, just don't k...k...kill me!"  I tied his paws with the metal that had tied my paws, and started on the long treck back to Salamandastron.  When I finally reached there, I threw the stoat into the prison, and smiled with satisfaction.  I had avenged part of my parent's deaths, and the other vermin who had slain them would soon be killed themselves.  Also, I had caught a prisoner for Tammo!
