Sir Scruffsalot
OK, so I'm technically not a squire. Hell, I can be SIR SCRUFFY (except that I need a period name, Scruffius? No. I think not.). I'm making my own suit of armor. Check out the journal of my armour and the pictures that go with it.
June 13th, I went out with my teacher, Rossi, aka Leaneus, and bought street hockey shin gaurds and gloves to use for vambraces and armored gloves. Then we went back to his house and started cutting out supplemtary pieces from heavy duty plastics. Rossi made me a gorget. I'll post a picture real soon. :P It's a curved metal plate to cover the front of my neck, a heavy black leather piece for the back, and brown and silvery buckles, and brass rivets. It's roman period in design and very authentic looking (aside from the liquid nail we used to hold the padding to the metal piece!).
My leg, torso, and arm amour is black street hockey armour with black heavy duty plastic. Which gives the effect of blackened steel and iron, like the common soldiers would wear (if they could afford the steel at all!). So far we've cut out the elbow fans and one of the sheets that will cover the inside of my arm. We have two pieces perfect for my thighs. I need to finish cutting out the other arm piece, both knee fans, and consider how we'll cover my upper arms. In case you can't tell, I'm super psyched!
