Hiho, Hiho, It's Off to Work I Go
Scruffy has a job! Who'd've thunk it?? Well I would have, but I think people were starting to doubt in me. Oh well, proved them wrong I did!
I'm doing a lot of work at the Bardavon and the Mid-Hudson Valley Civic center. The Bardavon is one of the 12 oldest theatres in the country, the oldest in New York. There I do general stage work. Set assembly, the occasional paint job. The Civic center hosts alot of rock gigs. Here's my activity:
-Sometime in October - Bardavon - house renovations, stage load in.
-October 31st - Civic Center - Goo Goo Dolls - Load in, Load Out. I have a Goo Goo Dolls guitar pick used by the Bassist. Got a crew T-shirt.
-Englebert Humperdink - Civic Center - bunch of old ladies were really hot for this guy. I was not such a fan.
-December 2-9 - New Paltz Ballet's Nutcracker - Bardavon - I ran Follow Spot 2! It was my first time on follow spot!
-December 10 - Meatloaf - Civic Center - Oy. I stayed a little after the load in call was over to help with stuff, but not much. Not the best crew I ever worked with, but not too bad either. I have a guitar pick signed by Jamal LaScot and a towel that I picked up off the stage. I had a beautiful moment when a woman in a wheel chair came up during strike with a security guard. We were to give her a pick or something. At first we thought they were all gone, but then I found one under something. She was so happy. It was a moment of beauty.
-December 15 - Kenny Rogers - Civic Center - I got my crew t-shirt, and the pay was good too. But I was there from 8am to 5pm, then 9 pm to 2am. Mel worked this concert with me, she was great.
-December 20 - Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker - Civic Center - This crew knew what it was doing. We even got paid that day. What a good job. Worked load in/load out, and had my first ever show call - granted, I sweeped up the stage snow during intermission, but it was my first show call. Yeah!
