  • This is a song that is a very special one to me - its words a sense of comfort and warmth, and when I listen to its music, the notes flow through my veins unwavering, filling me with sweet serenity. I first learned how to play it on the Piano several years ago when I was younger and I loved it, though it was always hard for me to pick up the tune of it. Later my father bought a number of CD's on Classical music that were extremely cheap (due to nobody buying them). This was the first time I ever properly heard the tune of "Ode to Joy", and I fell very much inlove with it. Some time later I watched the series Neon Genesis Evangelion, where the angel Nagisa Kowaru described the creation of 'Ode to Joy' as "the height of the Lilim culture". You'll have to watch the series to figure out just what that means (hehe) but it triggered a curiosity in me to learn the words of the song, if there were any. Thanks to the help of google, this is one of the many versions I discovered, and probably my favorite. I realized it was more then a song...it was a prayer for Joy and Happiness for all people, for love and peace. Its a song about destiny, and God's love for us all . Please, enjoy!

    Oh friends, not these tones!
    Let us raise our voices in more
    pleasing and more joyful sounds!

    Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
    Daughter of Elysium,
    We enter fire imbibed,
    Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

    Thy magic reunites those
    Whom stern custom has parted;
    All men will become brothers
    Under thy gentle wing.

    May he who has had the fortune
    To gain a true friend
    And he who has won a noble wife
    Join in our jubilation!

    Yes, even if he calls but one soul
    His own in all the world.
    But he who has failed in this
    Must steal away alone and in tears.

    All the world's creatures
    Draw joy from nature's breast;
    Both the good and the evil
    Follow her rose-strewn path.

    She gave us kisses and wine
    And a friend loyal unto death;
    She gave lust for life to the lowliest,
    And the Cherub stands before God.
    Joyously, as his suns speed
    Through Heaven's glorious order,
    Hasten, Brothers, on your way,
    Exulting as a knight in victory.

    Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
    Daughter of Elysium,
    We enter fire imbibed,
    Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

    Be embraced, Millions!
    This kiss for all the world!
    Brothers!, above the starry canopy
    A loving father must dwell.

    Can you sense the Creator, world?
    Seek him above the starry canopy.
    Above the stars He must dwell.
