This is my story...this is my revelation... to the world...
It is here that I will make an attempt to describe to you just what it is to be Otherkin, from my own personal perspective. I am no great writer or teacher on the subject by far, but this would not be an effective site if I did not try to tackle the issue. Otherkin are those people throughout the world who feel themselves and their souls to be something other then human. They have been reincarnated into human bodies to live human lives, for variously numbering reasons and motives. The list of the different types of Otherkin is an extremely long one. Some of the more common ones that come to mind are Dragon, Elven, Fae, Shadow, Vampire, Demon, Angel, Guardian, Star People, Elemental, Light Worker, etc. Generally most Otherkin are quite skilled in many Magical and Psychic arts, such as Empathy and (especially) Glamour. Not to say that Otherkin are stronger then normal people - all people, human and otherkin, have their own innate abilities and strengths. Otherkin will feel themselves gravitate towards their own abilities however I've noticed much much more then most people will. To learn and to grow in this area, is something that calls to them. To accept yourself as an Otherkin, can be one of the most challenging aspects of it. When you first come to realize that you are an Otherkin, this is commonly known as an Awakening. This is not you first memory returned, nor is it a sudden bolt of lightning that smacks you in the forehead! An awakening is simply the process of realizing your own true identity, and may happen over days as something quick or sudden, or (more commonyl) over a span of years. This is a frightening process for some. To be Otherkin does not mean that you are suddenly uber powerful or special - it means that you are suddenly no longer something you've always assumed yourself to be. It means you are not like, and never will be like, those around you. Many find discovering their identity as Otherkin a huge relieving and healing time, as it explains to them why they have always felt the way they have. But for others (like myself) it presented a much larger problem of self-perception and changing much of the way I thought about myself as well as the rest of the world. Whatever happens during this time of self-realization is up to the individual and how they handle it, but all in all for those who are true Otherkin in the depths of their souls, the truth is worth all hardship and trials they had to overcome. Some people might equate themselves with several of these, though it is just my own opinion that it would not be possible to be any form of combination (e.g. a Dragon/Elf/Vampire) and these people need to do a much deeper form of soul-searching to uncover the truth about themselves. |
