DAY 2

It was already dawn. We were wakened up by the most primitive method - the rooster. Most of us did not have sufficient sleep due to the fluctuation of the rooster's crowing throughout the cold night of Chiang Rai.

After a hearty breakfast, we were introduced us to our guides - Mr Otto(Mountaineering Expert), Mr Anthony Davis(Geographer), Mr Tor(Social & Public Relations Officier) and Jack(Water Works Professional).  Mr Anthony briefed us on the terrain, while the teachers assigned missions for each group respectively.

At 0900hrs, every GIS member had assembled in the briefing room.  Mr Otto told us that each group was responsible for laying 200m of pipes along the terrain. Coming to a total of 1.2km.    Mr Otto.jpg (65653 bytes)

Then came the Lahu Jack. He demonstrated on how to use the tools that were given to us, he also taught us how to connect the pipes. Each group were then given time to try out.

After our lunch, we set off for our mission. The GIS members were packed up a truck.  It was only a 10 minute ride.

We were stunned by the challenging track ahead of us.  It was a tedious task walking through the uneven terrain. Finally, we reached the Ban Kaeng Toon Dam. The dam was relatively small; sandbags surrounded it. Mr Otto told us that the villagers had dug the dam using their very own hands.  The BRAIN SLAYERS group members then proceeded to collecting water samples from the dam and logging data. The rest took photos of the surrounding area.

We continued our journey downhill. It was a exigent trek, as there were steep slopes and loose soil. Nevertheless, we lent our hands to each other and looked out for each other. It was the longest 1.2km in our lives. We took 3 hours to finish the trek.

The GIS members came back exhausted but exhilarated.  But it has not ended, the real challenge has  only just begun.......
