Day 4
The sun rose, as the darkness of the night was broken with warmth and light. The GIS team had a quick breakfast and once again set off to finish up the job which was left curtailed the day before. Along the way, we sang songs that would lift our enthusiasm and team spirit.
As Groups 1, 2 and 3 had finished their tasks the day before, the teachers deployed them to help the other 3 groups. We went to the respective sites and started the day's work. Though we already had had some experience, we still met with some minor difficulties. We ate our lunch at the sites, before heading back to the village, where we carrried out our cultural studies of the Kaeng Toon hilltribe.
Due to the absence of
the headman, we interviewed the former headman, with the help of a Mandarin-speaking
villager. We asked them many questions and as we filled in the survey, we uncovered
many queries about their lifestyle and culture.
Meanwhile, Jack was busy checking on the connectors. We waited anxiously at the water storage tank for the first drop of water, and when the water came, Mdm Leow jumped in excitement and exclaimed for joy. After the opening ceremony, we took the old clothes and distributed them evenly among the 24 households. It felt so meaningful but too bad Miss Teo could not be around with us. We took pictures with Jack and the villagers. We then headed back to the resort and had a scrumptious dinner.
Upon reaching the orphanage with our donations, we were warmly received by the children. When Mdm Leow presented the contribution to the principal, the orphans expressed their gratitude with smiles and we felt like superstars. We interacted with them and found them very polite. When it was time to leave, we were all very reluctant. Since it was getting dark, we were left with no choice but to leave our newly known friends. Our head councillor Chee Yuen also expressed our gratitude and love on behalf.
As the saying goes 'All good things must come to an end', we left with heavy sentiments in our hearts. As the truck throttled along the silent road, gazing up upon the shining stars, deep thoughts ran through our minds: we realised that we were indeed fortunate and blessed to be able to live a good life.
