Plot: Roz is taking a week off to decorate her apartment, and Frasier decides to hire a new talent to fill in for her. He chooses Mary Thomas, a black woman who previously worked in a bakery, and she is very eager.
A bit too eager. Frasier starts to feel she's taking over his show, as she's offering her own advice out as well to callers who are beginning to listen to her rather than Frasier. The callers start calling her "Dr" Mary and she is a big hit. Frasier knows he only has her for a week so lets her get on with it.
Mary is so popular though that Kenny decides to make her job with The Frasier Crane Show permanent. Roz is moved to Gil's show. Frasier wants her to calm down a bit, but is worried about telling her in case she thinks it's only because she's black.....
Later he does manage to tell her, and she says that's OK. She's just got her own show at another station and thanks Frasier for helping her accomplish her dream of being on the radio.
Meanwhile Niles has taken up kick-boxing but accidentally hurts Daphne.....
Subtitles: None this episode.
Trivia: Mentions of Mel - Niles is taking kick boxing to protect her in case she gives out her plastic surgeon's card out to people she thinks might need some - and of Gil. First appearance of Mary. First episode without subtitles, and first guest callers this season. The guy who eventually fills in for Roz is Chuck Ranberg, who speaks a la Elmer Fudd ("Hewwo Doctor Cwane"). He's named after Frasier writer Chuck Ranberg. And during the end scene, Daphne reads a book called To Love & Let Go - interesting, considering the situation with her and Niles......
