The Silver that is Platinum in My Eyes
The man with a mission!
Never has someone deserved to win the olympic gold medal then Elvis Stojko. Based on consistency alone over the last four years no other male skater parallels him. He is in a class all of his own! Aside from that Elvis has made it Ok for men to watch skating, he has brought masculinity into the sport at the expense of his artistic impression marks (mind you that is the judges opinions I think his presentation is awesome so perfectly suited to his music selections). It use to be in Canada that men watched hockey and women watched figure skating, Elvis has made it ok for men to watch skating or at least watch him skate (my husband will let me watch Elvis before he flips the channel and he watches too!) "I'm masculine," Stojko says. "I'm male ... You want to
portray that on the ice. I'm not into being gentle and vulnerable
and unprotected. I'm not that. I'm someone who protects ...". Well said Elvis
Although Elvis got silver in Nagano......he deserves platinum for courage strength and preservance. With a groin injury and the flu (that sideline more then one athelete at Nagano) he still landed all his jumps and got the silver. I know he didn't do the quad but come on guys he was injured. And I can take nothing away from Ilia Kulik's performance two flawless presentations deserving of the gold in this competetion.
All I can say is I hope Elvis is around in 2002 in Salt Lake City!
