Tom immigrated to America because he thought he had little opportunity
for success at home. His obituary states that his parents had ten
children. Only nine are found in records. When it became unprofitable
to farm before and during the depression, Tom trained and raced
horses. He set up a track on part of his farm land. He rented a farm
of J.E. Mills, in Freeman township, south of Dickens. He lived there 6
years until he was able to buy a farm himself. He first bought 80
acres, but later sold that & invested in three 80 acre tracts in
Freeman township. In 1909 owned 400 acres.

Must have been related in some way to Radcliffe family. Here shown as
daughter, but possibly different relationship. Of Elstow in her will
proven 4/18/1629. Probably living with youngest son John at time of
death. "On 1 Aug. 1611, Sir Edward Radcliffe of Elstow, Knt., for 32
pounds conveyed to John Radwell of Kempston, ploughwright, a messuage
of tenement in Elstowe, giving a covenant of assurance against Dame
Isabel Radcliffe, late of Elstowe, deceased, his mother. And the same
date, John Whitbread of Elstow, husbandman, for 20 pounds, gave to
John Radwell assurance of quiet enjoyment of the same premises against
'Elner Whitbread of Eluestowe,' his mother." Not on Radcliffe pedigree
in the Visitation of Bedfordshire, 1566, possibly because Sir Edward
was trying to prevent an incumberance placed on the property by his
mother Isabel, or claims of her creditors or heirs. In her will she
left to William her "silver measure ... for to be a standard for ever
unto the heirs of the Whitebreads." Probably signified that she was
from a family of high social status. - TAG 32:134-136.
