N I T: finished projects 2004-2005
Ooookay. I resolved not to buy anymore yarn
until I knit up my current collection (stash) of yarn.
Ha! That resolution lasted 3 weeks. However, I did
cleverly reduce my stash by sending some to
Gundel and some to Sistasmell.
Both ladies are far faster and more prolific than I, so the
yarn went to a good home.
Here's my list of finished projects, by month, most recent
nearest the top.
In February, I decided I needed to utilize slightly larger
pictures, so you can actually see the stuff.
JULY 9
"Squiggle"
Mystery yarn-the label fell off and was misplaced
Size 3 for 12 rows, size 10 for 4 rows, size 11 for bodies
Started June 30 finished July 9 (didn't make it onto the current
page!)
Notes: I remember liking the colours of this yarn, but I
discovered it didn't want to work in the project I had originally
planned for it. It went with the wasabi shell, so I decided
to make a simple, airy scarf. That way I still had something
for my mom if the shell didn't fit. I didn't like knitting this
yarn, but I liked the final result. Also, two more skeins outta
the stash!

JUNE 05
"Wasabi"
The Yarn Co. Pattern
Berrocco Zen Ribbon in Wasabi (a kind of celery green)
Size 11's
Started May 29 but had a DO OVER!
Notes: This is my mom's birthday gift, a shell in pretty ribbon
yarn. I had most of it knit before realizing I was knitting
the wrong gauge (misread the directions).
June 19 Finished the body, which seems to be too small, even
though I swear I got the correct gauge. Fighting with trying
to finish the edges with a decent-looking single crochet.
June 25 Here eet is, although the color is duller than actual.
The ribbon yarn gives a nice sheen, which also does not show
up here.
"Juli"
Making it up as I go
Moda Dea in Hot Pink and Silver (doubled up)
Orginally on Size 11's, redoing on size 10 needles for a firmer
fabic
Started april 23 finished april 26, destroyed april 30, DO
OVER! COMPLETED JUNE 23
Notes: I saw this funky yarn in the base exchange. They never
have cool yarn! I didn't like the
texture of the yarn in the skein, but the fabric was really
nice. I started with a sketch of my
design (below) then knit it up very quickly. Then I screwed
up attaching the handles and while
removing them, I cut into the knit fabric. And the fat lady
put down her knitting and sang. Damn.
JUNE 20 I sewed the fucking lining in crooked. Gah! This
thing is cursed. I've just about had it.
JUNE 23 DONE! I ended up makeing it wider and less deep
than the drawing, as well as only showing half the
acrylic handles. I hope she likes it! If not, she can at least
use the lightning bolt pin!
MAY 05
"Shawl Y'all"
Oakley pattern from Berroco
Suede Ribbon in Calamity Jane
Size 10 needles
Started april 23
Finished may 1
Notes: I bought this yarn and pattern almost a year ago. I'm
finally getting around to knitting it.
I am pushing ever onward in the battle to reduce my stash.
APRIL 05
"Baybeebinkee"
Binkie
TLC Baby Clouds 100% fluffy-ass acrylic
Size 15 needles
Started March 9
Finished april 23
Notes:Knit with garter stich on the diagonal. You can barely
see it, but the edging is made with yarnovers. Easy and kawaii
(cute)!
"Christopfler"
Hat
100% Merino wool, fingering weight (doubled up) Koigu Premium
Painter's Palette
Size 5 needles
Started February 2
Finished april 23
Notes: I kept poking myself with the sharp little needle!
Also, I had to frog out the top decrease a few times
and I ended up not switching to dpns until the last possible
moment.

"Emily"
Scarf
100% wool yarn, made in Japan. A pretty, variegated green
(as requested by The Em)
Size 10 needles
Started January 14
Finished April 6
Notes: I ran out of yarn! I ended up frogging back
two rows of garter stitch on the scarf to make it even.

Big Blue Mess
Sweater (supposedly)
100% wool, Lamb's Pride Burly Spun in Boy Blue
25mm needles(!) I think that translates to a size 37 in the
States, but I'm not sure.
Notes: These needles are ginormous! It's impossible to
hold them in my hands, so I kind of prop them up on my lap.
It's more like macrame than knitting.
I have a sinking feeling that the sweater is going to make
me look like freakin Cookie Monster.
I'm calling it finished. I am NOT piecing it. I
am also not showing it to you.
MARCH 05
I didn't get much knitting done, I was sick, distracted,
busy, studying, yaddayaddayadda.
"Baybeeboodie"
Baby booties in light blue Red Heart Acrylic
garter and stockinette on size 6 needles.
Notes:I am showing an
unfinished bootie here, however I did complete the set and
mail them off to a friend who just recently
had his first child. The booties are easy and cute-they never
made it onto the current knits page because they knit so quickly.
I was able to knit the set in less than 2 hours! Here's
the pattern.

"Emily"
Mittens and a hat
100% wool yarn, made in Japan. A pretty, variegated green
(as requested by The Em)
Yarn was worked doubled up.
Size 6 for the ribbing on the cuffs, the rest of the mittens
on size 8's, knit flat.
Size 10's for the hat, knit circularly.
Notes: While making the mittens, I found out I was screwing
up increases, by making the some goofy-ass way.
.In addition, I messed up the thumbs AND the tops of the mittens
at one point, so I had to frog them back. Argggh!
I also knit two mittens at once, just to see if I could do
it. The hat is more like a beanie than a full hat, but it's
still cute.

FEBRUARY 05
"Valentin"
Scarf in Colinette's ISIS yarn, in "Rio" colourway.
garter stitch on size 11 needles.
Notes: I must have reknit
this stupid thing 6 times. I just couldn't seem to get a fabric
that I liked.
This is no fault of the yarn, though. It was me.

"Meme"
Stockinette stitch hat
Artful Yarns "Museum" in Sister Wendy
Size 15 needles
Notes: This one knitted up so fast it didn't even make
an appearance on the "current" page!
Sister Wendy was a famous art historian. I'm a not-so-famous
art historian. I also should wear makeup when I'm gonna be
in the pic.
And what may you ask is a meme? Well, it is a hat for me!
me! But a meme is also this.
Knitting can be considered a meme.

"Annie"
Garterstitch shawl
LaBoeheme Fiesta Yarn in "Salsa" and fringed with
Berrocco's "Zen Colors" ribbon.
Size 15 needles
Notes: I'm allergic to mohair, so it was pretty tough to
work on this, as the hair made my nose run!
Annie is mother to Annabell, the recipient of the pink poncho.
"Ronnie"
Gaiter part of hat and gaiter set, part of a DHSA project,
like the "Matt" gaiter
Started 2/5, finished 2/7 (in a fit of ambition)
Adapted from 2x2 ribbing hat patterns
70/30 Wool/Acrylic "Katylana Roving" Japanese yarn
in Olive
Size 10.5 needles for both
Notes: Once again, the photos don't do justice to the yarn.
It's really handsome.

JANUARY 05

"Aimee"
Scarf and Hat set
2x2 ribbing scarf and hat
100% Wool "Bettina" Japanese Yarn in varigated pink
and purple.
Size 10.5 needles
Notes: Sorry about the focus on this one. The Bettina is
a really nice yarn that I got on sale! It looks better on
Aimee than it does on me. She's far cuter.

"Annabell"
Poncho and Hat set
Adapted from standard poncho and hat patterns
30/70 Wool/Acrylic Japanese Yarn
Size 11 needles
Notes: Only little girls should wear ponchos. I didn't
have a little girl available, so my decorative urn is modeling
the poncho and my needle case models the hat. Then I got a
picture of Annabell wearing Annabell. She doesn't seem too
happy about it, either.

"Asia"
Scarf and Hat set
Adapted from standard scarf pattern. I made up the hat as
a I went.
70/30 Wool/Acrylic Japanese Yarn for hat (I had a lot left
over from the ANNABELL project)
100% Acrylic Japanese yarn for scarf body, fringe is the ANNABELL
stuff (again).
Size 10 needles on the hat, 15 for the scarf
Notes: The slubby scarf yarn looked just like cotton candy!
I showed Asia the knit stitch and she is working on her own
scarf! Check out the picture!

"Carol"
Scarf and Hat set
No particular pattern, just what I knew how to do, garter
stitch for both
Eyelash yarn was "Mexico" a German-made eyelash
made from recycled soda bottles!, the black yarn was plain
old Red Heart black acrylic.
Size 10 needles for Hat, 11 for scarf
Notes: My friend Susann sent me the eyelash yarn from Germany.
The eyelash yarn was really soft and silky. I spilled purple
ink all over the scarf (long story) but it washed out, no
prob! The yarn looks better in person than it does in the
picture. Then again, so do I.

"Keira"
Scarf and Hat set
Adapted from standard scarf and hat patterns
70/30 Wool/Acrylic Japanese Yarn for hat (I had a lot left
over from the ANNABELL project)
100% Acrylic Japanese yarn for scarf body, fringe is the ANNABELL
stuff (again
Size 11 needles for hat, Size 19 for the scarf
Notes: Asia is modelling the "Kiera" hat. Both
Asia and Keira are the progeny of Aimee. They asked for hats
after they saw the "Aimee" hat I made.

"Matt"
Hat and Gaiter set
Adapted from 2x2 ribbing hat patterns
70/30 Wool/Acrylic "Katylana Roving" Japanese yarn
in blue
Size 10.5 needles for both
Notes: The gaiter is a tubular scarf, like the hat without
its top. Nice to wear to keep your neck warm when you don't
want to worry about a scarf
falling off. The yarn is pretty and soft and knits up faster
on plastic needles than it did on bamboo. That's not Matt
in the picture. It's Chris, my spouse.
"Ronnie"
Hat and Gaiter set
Adapted from 2x2 ribbing hat patterns
70/30 Wool/Acrylic "Katylana Roving" Japanese yarn
in Olive
Size 10.5 needles for both
Notes: Once again, the photos don't do justice to the yarn.
It's really handsome.

"Victoria"
Scarf
Started on 1/30, Completed 1/31
Garter stitch (over 6 feet of it!)
Japanese eyelash yarn, black and purple, with silver threads.
Size 19 (!)
Notes: The little guy modelling the scarf is a reproduction
Haniwa figurine.
Haniwas are from the Jomon period in Japan, about 5,000
years ago.
The silver sparkles ("fairy turds") don't show up
very well.
DECEMBER '04
"Kelly"
2x2 ribbing scarf
Hideous bright green Japanese
acrylic craft yarn
Size 10 needles
NO PICTURE AVAILABLE (probably a blessing)
Notes: This yarn was HORRIBLE to knit with and the colour
was "ew" but he loved it anyway. Bless him. I'm
making him a sweater someday, because I know he'll like it
no matter what it looks like.
"Sylvia"
Garter stitch scarf
Colinette "Isis" yarn in "Zebra" colourway
Size 11 needles
NO PICTURE AVAILABLE (can't get it away from her long enough
to take one)
Notes: This is a very quick and very beautiful scarf to
knit.

"Denise"
Hat and Mitten set
Adapted from standard hat and mitten patterns
100% wool, hand-spun and hand-dyed
Size 6 and 8 for mittens, hat on size 10.
Notes: The yarn was lovely to work with and the picture
doesn't do the colour justice. This was the first time I'd
altered a pattern ( changed the mitten cuffs).
And that was it for December, because the mittens took forever!
