WMC2003 Party Reviews
After
getting home around 8am that morning I had tocrash for a
good part of the day. I woke up at 4pm and was ready to
begin my last day in South Beach. After getting ready
and eating, I headed down to the Kent Hotel for the Decks
and the City party. The courtyard at the Kent looked just
like a secret garden; aside from the music, you would never
know it was there from the street. Hanging trees covered
it and there were plants everywhere. It was the perfect
setting to hear one of my favorite DJs, Diz, playing probably
*the* best set I heard atthe whole conference. He was rocking
that garden party with his jackin beats and sick basslines.
Every song he played was off the hook and he didn't give
the dance floor a single second to rest.

Even though my feet were sore and
my muscles ached, I couldn't help but dance as hard as I
could. . What a fabulous start to the last day. Diz's blazing
set wore me out, so after his set I went back to my hotel
room to rest.
Later
that evening, I decided to head over to Tantra for 'The
Goods', which was DJ Heather's cd release party. Once I
finally got inside (thanks to my friend sweet talking the
doorman), the normally restaurant-turned club was very small
and extremely crowded. There was no set dancefloor. Only
a space in front of the booth, with the rest of the space
taken up by tables of people enjoying their high class meals
and overpriced wine.. Nevertheless, I decided to stand right
by the booth and just watch the DJs work their magic. I
lucked out because the first thing I saw was Gavin Froome
doing a live PA. He was absolutely phenomenal; if I had
not been standing right in front I would have thought he
was mixing. The music he made was extremely moving and beautiful.
After he was finished performing, Luke Mckeehan started
to play. His set was dope and I wish I had more room to
dance, especially when he played the 'One Thing' by the
Lawnchair Generals.
Up next was the fabulous DJ Heather,
who rocked the party from start to finish. One of the first
killer
tracks
she played was an unlikely house remix of 'Wicked Game'
by Chris Isaak, which made the crowd go crazy. She also
busted out some hot tracks from Johnny Fiasco and JT Donaldson
and her mixes were slammin. An awesome house remix of 'When
I Get You Alone' by Thicke had everyone yelling for more.
Heather answered by dropping a new track by John Larner
and Slater Hogan with a
deep
male vocal saying "Oh, Shit!" The crowd was freaking
out and yelling along with the track when Heather pointed
to the man standing next to her, who happened to be one
of the producers. As usual, she ripped it up that night
and if there had been more room to dance the night would
have been flawless. Heather is a tough act to follow, so
it was a good thing that Halo was up next. He didn't miss
a beat, and kept the party right on bangin. Unfortunately
my energy level was running low and I had to call it a night.
Thus concludes my adventures in Miami.
The week of the conference always flies by much too quickly
and takes too long to come back around. I had a fabulous
time and am already counting down to next year. Thanks to
the whole Orlando crew for making this year's conference
so memorable. I can't wait to do it all over again!
