English as a Second Language Scripts
A pantomime/instant skit of the story of Lazarus, available in two versions, easy and hard. Both versions were designed for use with a kids' ESL program in Taiwan. The easy version has 12 major vocabulary words and four characters. The "hard" version has 15 major vocabulary words and five characters. Based on John 11:1-44. 3-4 minutes.
Jesus' Party A Christmas script originally written for higher-level ESL audiences, but suitable for all. A look at the Christmas story from the angels point of view- the angels think that Jesus is going to earth as a conquering king, but God points out that He will be a servant. Written for 9 characters, but adaptable. About 10 minutes.
The Paralyzed Man An ESL script designed for use in Taiwan for a children's program. Only uses about 50 different words. Based on Luke 5:17-26, Matthew 9:18, and Mark 2:1-12. 5-9 characters, 3 minutes.
The following scripts were originally written for "Get Real Tonite," the seeker-sensitive service of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Newton, NJ. They are not intended to answer the question or problem they address, but rather merely get people thinking about the topic. The sermon following it would get into the answers for the problems.
Dead This skit is primarily about gossip, using extremes to make a point. It is inspired by the Lost and Found song, "Heard." 2 characters, 2 minutes.
WHY? My very first script, written with the help of my father. This is a Reader's Theater, addressing the question "Why do bad things happen to the innocent?". 3 characters, 3 minutes.
Life Another Reader's Theater, addressing the question "Whose life is it anyway?" 3 characters, 2-3 minutes.
Every This short sketch addresses the eternal problem of "Everybody's Doing It!" This script uses scripture to counter the excuse, everybody's doing it! 1 person, 1 voice, 2 minutes.
Job A short sketch that can be played in several different settings, or no particular one at all, dealing with, "Where is God when I need a job?" In this sketch, a mother and her daughter grapple with where God is in times of unemployment. 2 characters, 2 minutes.
