Harriett said that her mother [Amy Wheeler Hughes] slapped her hard across the face
because her mother got "mad" at her (done during a week-end unsupervised visitation trip).

Amy Wheeler Hughes was hotlined and Amy said that Harriett "fell" again.
Harriett (and Sarah) told their dad and me that their mother told them that
they had to tell the Court that they wanted to live with her (Amy). When
Harriett said, "No- I want to live with my dad," Amy hit her in the face.
Since David was given sole legal and physical custody of Harriett and Sarah
in 1995 because of the sexual abuse, Amy badgered the children continually
during week-end visitations, trying to force them to say they wanted to live
with her. When the children did not agree with their mother, Amy became very
angry and physical toward Harriett and Sarah.

Harriett said that her mother [Amy Wheeler Hughes] beat her with a belt because her mother
got "mad" at her. The imprint of the belt buckle can easily be seen on Harriett's back (done during a week-end
unsupervised visitation trip).

Harriett walked into my home at 5:15pm from her mother's and told her dad
and me that her back hurt really bad from "the belt"- we asked Harriett if
we could see her back and we saw what Amy had done. Amy was hotlined but Amy
said that Harriett "fell." Harriett and Sarah said over and over and over
that Amy got mad at Harriett and started chasing Harriett and swinging a
belt at Harriett's back. Harriett said that her mother hit her Sunday
afternoon and David didn't pick the kids up until 5pm on Sunday- the raised
welt and buckle mark was still very visible hours after it happened. I
cried- I just cried. This kind of physical abuse happened so many times when
Harriett and Sarah had unsupervised visitation with their mother. It was as
if Amy was flaunting her "power" as their mother to discipline Harriett and
Sarah in any manner she wanted and she believed that she could get away with
it. Sarah told me, "Grandma, mom says that she can do anything she wants to-
it doesn't matter who we tell because mom will tell them that we are "liars"
and they will believe her because she is our mother- we are just kids and
DSS won't listen to us."

Sarah
went to visit her mother on Friday for a week-end visitation. When Sarah
came to my house on Sunday after her dad picked her and Harriett up at about
5:15pm, Sarah was obviously very sick and had a high fever. She was having a
hard time breathing and said that her mother had "rammed" with them all
week-end outside and that it was very cold. David took Sarah to the hospital
and the hospital admitted Sarah with "pneumonia." Amy was hotlined for
neglect and Amy said that she had no idea why Sarah was sick.

Harriett returned from a week-end visitation with her mother
(Amy Wheeler Hughes) with blood on her shirt and she had wet her pants.

Harriett told her dad and me at about 5:15pm (David
picked Harriett and Sarah up at 5pm) that her mother had gotten "mad" at her
again and had locked her in the bathroom. Harriett said that she was
pounding on the bathroom door and screaming to get out for a long time.
Harriett said, "My mother acts crazy and I get afraid when she gets mad."
Amy was hotlined and Amy said that Harriett "fell" again. Harriett's hands were
bruised and swollen from pounding on the bathroom door, screaming to get
out.

mother.

This is a partial picture of Sarah's arm. Sarah said
that her mother got "mad" at her, grabbed her arm, swung Sarah around and
Sarah hit the wall. Amy's finger prints could clearly be seen on Sarah's arm
when she arrived at my house at about 5:15pm after a week-end visitation
with her mother (Amy Wheeler Hughes). Amy was hotlined and Amy said that
Sarah "fell" again.
