Para and Items

M249 PARA
Manufacturer: Fabrique Nationale
Cost: $5750
Shots per Clip: 100
Cost for Ammo, Amount: $60, 30
Max Reserved Ammo: 200
Secondary: n/a
Caliber: 5.56mm
Class: primary, light machine gun
Rate of Fire:
Damage per shot: 29, 22, 30
Usage: I'm not much of a para fan. There isn't much need for this gun. It is inaccurate, and has severe recoil. The only thing it has is 100 round clips. So, if you're on a 32 player server this may be a little useful in certain situations. For example, if you're a ct on de_vertigo, rush down the ladder and para all the terrorists still in respawn :-). Very effective on laggy servers.

Kevlar Vest
Cost: $650
Usage: Buy a gun before you buy kevlar. These things help you keep alive, but a good gun does so even better. If you've ever played es_trinity, and was wondering what that funny looking thing on the bed was, it's a vest!
Kevlar Vest and Helmet
Cost: $1000
Usage: Unless you're filthy rich, sitting on $8k+ and your team is winning every round, I don't really recommend you buy a Helmet. For an extra $350, it's just not worth it. If you're gonna get shot in the head, you're probably dead anyway, so, just buy a grenade if you have the extra cash on you :-).

Highly Explosive Grenade (HE)
Cost: $300
Damage per grenade:
Usage: Thought that guy you put a clip into should've died? Throw a HE his way! These things are particularly useful on 32 people servers..hahaha. Remeber that walls don't mean a thing for Highly Explosive grenades, you can kill people through walls with these. If you snipe someone and they don't die, throw a HE their way. Remember that you can buy as many of these as you want, time permitting. If the other team is bunched together well behind cover, it may be a good idea to run back to respawn and get another grenade.

Flashbang Grenade (FB)
Cost: $200
Damage per grenade: blindness
Usage: Use these to enter a guarded area, or to blind a rushing team. Watch where you throw these! I think I've been blinded more by teammates than by enemies.

Smoke Grenade
Cost: $300
Damage per grenade: lag attack!
Usage: I see these misused all the time. The way smoke works, is that it's easier to see into it than to see through it. Smoke grenades will lag out a lot of people. If you are getting heavily rushed, an important way to slow/stop the other team is to use a smoke grenade. Stopping their momentum is very important part to overcoming a rush. It's a lot easier to take 1 or 2 at a time, rather than all of them at once. If you can manage to throw this toward a sniper, it will probably force him to move somewhere else.

c4
Damage per bomb: a lot!
Usage: As a terrorist, planting the c4 can be advantageous and disadvantageous. Do Not plant it unless you can guard it! You may want to signal to your team via radio to help protect it before you plant. There are 2 different ways you should plant the bomb. One is to hide it, another is to guard it. On many new maps, you can hide the bomb rather well, many spots require a boost though. Note, c4 will not explode in water. If you are going to guard the bomb, think about where to plant. Think about what the counter-terrorist will do when he sees the bomb. Try and trick them. If you are on de_vertigo, try planting the bomb by the door (at ct spawn site). Many players have seen this plant spot before, and they will assume you're behind the door. Hide somewhere they will easily run past to get to the bomb. Then hit 'em from behind! Rememer that you do not have to be close to the bomb to guard it. In general, it's better to guard the bomb from far away, because they won't expect it, and because there's more spots you can hide in.
Defusal Kit
Cost: $200
Usage: In general it is a good idea to buy this. Be smart when you're buying at the beginning. If your team is getting rushed/slaughtered each round by the t's, then you do Not need to buy this! Remember that unplanted bombs on the ground are useful. In general, terrorists will plant the bomb at the closest site when they pick up the bomb. Also in general, people will switch to the c4 before they get to the red X on the ground, and not check the area very well for enemies. So, on de_dust2 for example, if you see the bomb in the hallway to bombsite B, a viable strategy is to hide behind some of the boxes at the bombsite, then waste the t when he walks by to plant OR let him plant the bomb, then waste him, then defuse and win the round :-).
Nightvision Goggles
Cost: $1250
Usage: For me, nightvision sucks. I have a voodoo 3 and nightvision drops my fps from 30 or so to 12. Teammates, enemies, and hostages will glow when you use nightvision. If you are having trouble seeing enemies in the dark, I recommend you up your contrast/brightness settings in your monitor, and perhaps up it some more in cs config, and in vid card driver settings :-). Currently, my gamma settings in cs config are at max, my monitor contast/brightness are at max, and my 3dfx driver has my OpenGL mode settings to 130% contrast and brightness. Use the glare reduction in config if you get glare on your monitor. If you have a GeForce 2 Ultra or whatever, and you have fps to spare, you could opt to use nightvision on dark places like cs_arabstreets at the terrorist spawn, or cs_assault in the underground tunnels.
