Aiming

Aiming is a very important part of counter-strike. Before you shoot, make sure you aim. It sounds simple, but if you're missing your target, you're probably shooting before your crosshair is on the enemy. This is probably because you get trigger happy when you see someone. Don't start shooting someone when you see them, start shooting when you're aiming on them. If you get trigger happy and shoot early, it's harder to aim when you're firing. And there's also recoil, plus the factor that you have a limited clip size.

Think about it this way, if you get trigger happy and don't take the time to aim, then your gun is still aiming, it's aiming away from your target, and it will hit that target. Maybe the recoil will send the bullets to your target, but that's wasted bullets/time. When you're shooting far distances without a scope, I find it easier to only use part of the crosshair. I use the top vertical line, and the left horizontal line. I extend them to a point in my mind, and use that to aim. That's just me though, do whatever works for you.

When you're sniping, aiming is a little different because the crosshair now has a red dot in the middle. Keep it simple though, just shoot when the red dot is on the guy. Guess where to aim, if you think they're going to run out of cover to another cover, aim for a spot they'll pass through, and click when they're there. If they jump, an easy way to kill them is to aim for where they will land, because it's very easy to tell where he/she will land, and you have time to aim.

If you're having trouble seeing your crosshair, you can change what color it is by typing "adjust_crosshair" in console. I think there's 6 colors or so that it cycles through. Don't set your mouse sensitivity too high, you can change it from console by typing "sensitivity x". I have my mouse sensitivity at 3.3, but my resolution is at 640x480. You can see your current sensitivity by typing "sensitivity".
