General Gameplay

This section will tell you how to play in general. Don't follow it word for word. First off, realize that you're either rushing or camping, and plan out your rush/camp before you do it. Have a fallback plan. Now, this varies from server to server, but in general you want to stick with your team. If you're finding that you have to shoot too many enemies at once, stick with your team. If you're in a smaller server, you can pick off the other team one by one, or go the untraveled root and pick off the other team from behind. In a 32 player server, it's literally impossible to stay alive if you're alone. There's just too many targets you have to shoot at once.

It is extremely important to know the map you are playing. The Only way to do this is to play on both the terrorist and counter-terrorist team and explore everywhere you can go.

Use your radar. I can't stress this enough. Make a note of how many teammembers go off in a direction, for exmaple, under the bridge in de_dust. Later on, watch your radar. If you see the other team fragging your team, check your radar for where the dots are missing. That way you know where the enemies are coming from. Act on that and get good position. However, if you or others are lagging, you're radar will be lagged too.

In case you don't know how your radar works, each dot represents one team member. This dot can become an T or an upsidedown T. The regular T means that your teammate is above you. An upside down T means that he or she is below you. Red dots/Ts represent bomb carriers or VIPs. Remember that your radar is only so big. If you see a teammate on the edge of your radar, don't assume that they are there, compared to you. They can be even farther away, but the dot will stay that far away from you on radar.

Listen for footsteps. If they are not yours or your team's, then they are the enemies'. You can camp them easily if you hear them in advance.

Reload only when you have "good" cover. What do I mean by that, you ask. Well, if you're in a situation where you have no teammates with you, and the enemy is within distance to run from his cover and kill you before you finish reloading, then that's not good cover. I recommend you either to fallback to better cover or rush him with your secondary if you're desperate. If there's more than one enemy though, it's best to fall back. Do not reload after every kill for the sake of reloading. If you do reload, make sure you have cover. Teammates make good cover. If the enemies are shooting your teammates, they aren't shooting you. Use your secondary pistol when needed. Remember that when you switch to it, it will have little to none recoil, and ammo in it. Your secondary is very useful in those times your running low on ammo, plus your getting a lot of recoil. If you select your pistol before you switch to primary, then when you press your "last used weapon" key (default q), then it will switch to your secondary. (It's quicker than pressing 2, then clicking.)
