INLAND CONTAINER DEPOT, FARIDABAD.

ICD, Faridabad is situated at Sector 59, adjacent to Railway Line, Ballabgarh, Faridabad. It is spread over an area of 13 acres. Public Bonded warehouse is also situated within the boundaries of ICD, Faridabad.

The port started functioning in June 1997 for de-stuffing/stuffing of import and export cargo and clearance thereof. The Public Bonded Warehouse provides facility of warehousing the goods under Section 59/49 of Customs Act,1962.

The port was under the administrative control of Commissioner, Central Excise, Delhi- II earlier. However, w.e.f. 01.02.1999 it has been placed under the control of Commissioner of Customs, ICDs, Tughlakabad, New Delhi vide Public Notice No. 4/99 Dated 29.01.1999. Customs staff at this port is posted on cost recovery basis.

M/s Associated Container Terminals Ltd., New Delhi, are the custodian of the cargo. It is a joint venture with a Malaysian company M/s Kansortium Logistics Ltd. which is holding 40% of the equity capital while the rest of the equity is being held by Sh R.R.Joshi who is also the Chairman of ACTL

At present, all import containers meant for ICD, Faridabad are brought from gateway ports (Mumbai and Nhava-Sheva) to ICD, Tughlakabad via rail transport under the custody of CONCOR. CONCOR and  ACTL are submitting carrier bonds for the movements of these containers. For movement between ICD, Tughlakabad and ICD, Faridabad M/s ACTL submits carrier bond to Customs at ICD, Tughlakabad. The same procedure applies to the export containers as well.

Additional cost of transportation between ICD, Tughlakabad and ICD, Faridabad has been the main disadvantage hindering the growth of this port. However, expeditious clearance by customs has gone a long way in mitigating this problem. This is evident from the substantial increase in the work load as well as increase in revenue collection at this port.

Apart from processing of export shipping bills, import bills of entry, processing and sanction of Drawback claims, verification and registration of DEPB licenses, assessment of ex-bond Bills of Entry for goods warehoused at two public bonded warehouses (CWC, Faridabad and this port) is also done by Customs Office at ICD, Faridabad..
