CAPTAIN BAHARUDIN ISHAK - MARINE SURVEYOR
Master Mariner
A very dedicated surveyor, Captain Baharudin began his career at sea in 1984 with
Neptune Orient Lines as a Cadet Officer and had sailed in various capacities. In
October 1994, he obtained a Class I Master Mariner (Foreign-Going) Certificate of
Competency.
Experience
- He has sailed on board various types of merchant ships such as oil tankers, bulk
carrier, general cargo ship and container ship.
- In his years with Neptune Orient Lines, he was actively involved in the implementation
of the training and the endorsement of the company's International Safety Management
Procedures as well as its Internal and External Audits.
- In the year 1996, whilst with Neptune Orient Lines, he was stationed at Hiroshima, Japan
to supervise the construction and the new-building programme of a series of oil tankers.
He was also responsible for the supervision of the tank coating
preparation/application of the oil tankers and subsequently took delivery and command of
one of the new oil tankers.
- Whilst ashore and between sailing assignment, he completed a number of
specialist/professional courses, including Oil, Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tanker
Operations, Advanced Tanker Safety, Safety and Quality Management System and Electronic
Navigational Systems.
- Currently he deals with a wide variety of marine surveys including hull and machinery
damage, draft and deadweight surveys, ship to ship transfer survey, superintendency of
repairs and new building of vessels, consultancy in loading and discharging of general
cargoes, compass adjusting, stowage, seafastening and lashing surveys of heavy-lift
equipment, pre-condition surveys and valuation surveys of ships for major banks and
financial institutions.
- His recent major assignment includes the investigation into an environmental pollution
liability claim arising from oil spillage in the course of discharging operation of a
product tanker berthed at a oil terminal, the supervision of the outturn and safe
reloading surveys of a fleet of Sikorksy Helicopters for a foreign government and
investigation into the supply of bad bunkers causing extensive damage to the main engine
of a large tanker as well as consequential losses such as loss of hire, deviation costs
and demurrage.
