[03/26/03] Coach Lucy Young announced that three Lady Vikes were selected among the State's elite to the participate in this year's Mississippi All Star Softball games. In slow-pitch, Lyn Strawn and Anna Mitchell will compete as members of the South team. This is the second consecutive year Warren Central has been represented in the game.

New Field House
[2/21/03] Continuous rains delayed the
grand opening of the Lady Vikes new concession
stand with overhead press box. Situated behind
home plate, the spacious climate controlled
structure includes such amenities as
lavatories, first class public address system,
and even an ice machine.
[5/15/02] The class of 2003 started its
school year with the grand opening of a new
Lady Vikes field house. Adjacent to the
softball field, the 3,000 square foot building

lockers, weight training area, laundry room
and offices.
Landers Fields Awards
[5/8/02] Graduation ceremonies mark the end
of Marilyn Landers' high school softball
career. But don't feel too sorry for her, she
will be back on the field next year on
scholarship at Hinds Community College. If she
plans to tote all her post-season awards to
Hinds, packing could be a problem. In addition
to being named the team slow-pitch MVP for the
3rd time and back-to-back County Player of the
Year, she earned Warren Central's female
athlete of the year honors. As a capper, she
also received the first ever PopSport Award
for slow-pitch given by the Mississippi Sports
Hall of Fame & Museum. View her Many
achievements on the new Lady Vikes "Hall
of Fame" page.
Fast-pitch
2003 School Year
[18/10/02] High anticipation
of a potential run at a State Championship
ended abruptly with the Lady Vikes exiting the
playoffs during the first round at Biloxi.
Despite a somewhat disappointing 17-10 season,
there were plenty of highs having won the Lady
Vikes Invitational, Clinton Invitational and a
second place finish at the Brookhaven
Invitational.
2002 School Year
[5/26/02] All County - For the second
consecutive year the Vicksburg Post has named
Katie Barnett as its fast-pitch County
Player of the Year. It is also the second
time in as many years that the Lady Vikes
swept the top award for both fast- and
slow-pitch. The other All-County recipients
were Marilyn Landers, Keisha Blue, Lauren
Anderson and Cookie Johnson.
[5/4/02] Coach
of the Year - In only the third season of
the school's fast-pitch program, the Lady
Vikes won their first Division 4-5A
championship and a trip to the playoffs. By
season's end the team compiled a 23-2 record
and a #1 state ranking. Following a 2-game
sweep of Northwest Rankin the Lady Vikes
dropped their opening 2nd round game against
Starkville. They gave everything they had in
the following two games but fell short by one
run in their second extra inning game of the
day to be eliminated. Their strong showing
during the regular season and the playoffs
garnered them a #9 ranking in the Clarion
Ledger's final standings. The extraordinary
season earned Lucy Young the Vicksburg Post
fast-pitch Co-Coach of the Year award. She
shares the honor with Gene Rogillio of St.
Aloysius.
[3/8/02] All State - Coach Young announced
that Marilyn Landers and Katie Barnett were
selected 2nd Team All-state by the Mississippi
High School Coaches Association.

should it? Coach Young was instrumental in
guiding her Lady Vikes to its most successful

and LaShandra Williams.
