Coach Lucy Young
Softball began at Warren Central in 1977 under
the direction of Coach Lucy Young.
F or
the past 25 years Coach Young has lead the Lady
Vikes slow-pitch program. In the first eight years
of high school softball there was no state play-off
system. During those years the Lady Vikes won three
League Championships and two Central Mississippi
Championships. Since 1986 to the present the Warren
Central softball program has won 10 Division
Championships, 3 Runner-up Division Championships, 3
Clinton Invitationals, 1995 Brookhaven Tournament
Championship, 6 Lady Vikes' Invitationals, 2 Lady
Vikes' Runner-up, 2 River City Classic
Championships. Her school year 2001 slow-pitch team
swept their way to the Mississippi North State
Championship which earned Coach Young the first ever
Vicksburg
Post Slow-pitch Coach of the Year award.
Coach Young's over-all record is 323 wins against
162 losses.
Under the direction of Coach Young and her able
assistant Amanda Yocum, Warren Central fielded their
first ever Fast-pitch softball team in 2000. Despite
the team's placement in a Division containing two of
the State's great powers, Coach Young guided her
team to a Lady Vikes' Invitational Championship and
a respectable 10-8 record . In 2001 her team
improved their record to 12-6, finishing 3rd in the
Division and a first place at the Clinton
Invitational Tournament. In 2002 her team won its
first Division championship. Enroute to the playoffs
she guided her team to a 26-4 record and a #1
ranking in the State garnering her a share of the 2002
Vicksburg Post Fast-pitch Coach of the Year award.
"We are excited about the fast-pitch program
and the opportunities it will offer our players with
the ability to play at the college level. Over the
years it has been my honor to coach some of the most
talented softball players in the state. Players and
parents, past and present have worked to make this
program successful. Our motto has been "Pride
In Performance". I truly believe in this - on
and off the field. God has truly blessed me in my
career."
