Assistant Coach Amanda Yocum
Coach Yocum, former Lady Vike, joined Coach Young as assistant during the 1999-2000 school year.
C oach Yocum played at Warren Central in 1988 and 1989. As a result of consolidation, she transferred to Vicksburg where she finished her high school career. While with the Lady Vikes, she was a pitcher. At Vicksburg, she played shortstop. In 1990-1991, she was named to the All District team and MVP and best offensive player. She went on to Hinds Community College, where she pitched and played shortstop and second base. During her college years, she was named to the All State Team in 1992-1993, best defense award, and in 1993 she received the Hinds Eagle Award as Female Athlete of the Year. This past summer she played on a women's team that won both USSSA State and ASA State Championships. Her team placed second in USSSA Regionals. Coach Yocum has coached a 12-and-under fast pitch team and an 18-and-under slow pitch team. She enjoys coaching at the high school, but more than that she enjoys being able to help coach a team for which a high level of excellence is expected.
"Play Like You Practice" is her coaching philosophy. Having been a player, I know the hard work and dedication it takes to play a varsity sport. These girls came out in 95 degree heat and practiced for two hours daily to better their game and their team. That says something about the heart of this Lady Vikes team!
