'E'

Eden's Trail issue 1, by Chuck Austen and Steve Uy, 2002, Marvel Comics
Here's another pick off the display rack. This one even came in a storage bag so I didn't have a chance to flip through it in the store. So why'd I get it? I have long believed that comics need to try new things, especially new form factors. And as you can tell by the cover scan, this book has a "landscape" form factor, so it's wider than it is tall. So I bought it based on that alone. That's actually a somewhat silly reason for buying a comic, but I'll be able to live with myself.

The story is somewhat odd for a setup to a series. At least I think it's intended to be a series. You see that guy on the cover? He's a sheriff in what looks to be some sort of post-apocalyptic sci-fi "western" environment, like cowboys and indians with automatic weapons and grenades. Somewhat odd. This issue details what happens when this sheriff walks into a bar that is in the process of being robbed. It didn't end like I thought it would, but to say more would ruin the surprise. That being said, I didn't care for it that much, and I doubt I'll be getting any more issues. The art was OK, but it didn't really grab me. I also didn't connect with any of the characters. So I probably wasted my money, but at least I supported an attempt to be different.
