July, 2000

The end of July saw another major milestone with its own ups and downs.  The windows are in!  They have just the look and feel we were hoping from wood windows.  They're from Loewen (a canadian company with a great environmental policy).  That's the "up".  The "down" was that about 1/3 of the windows had the wrong divided light design in them!  There were a few hours of stress while we waited for a call back from the window subcontractor.  In the end, he said that replacing them would not be a problem.  Since the error was in the divided lights, new sash units can be ordered and the frames left in place.  That means that there's no impact on the schedule.  It turned out to be the manufacturer's error which means no additional cost.  So, we're back "up" again.

This is an interior shot in the center of the great room.  Directly behind us is one of the sliding door openings onto the back porch (left of the fireplace; there's another just right of the fireplace as well).  Further behind is the kitchen with a dining space to the right of the kitchen.

This is what the house looked like at the end of July.  Now things get busy with all of the rough-in starting on the inside and the lathers preparing the exterior for stucco.  Next month looks like a hectic one.
